Like it is right now — there are still people who preordered before the start of sales who haven't gotten their cars yet.
The platform isn't really about making money tho - it's a low volume halo project aimed at sportifying and elevating the brands. Watching insta and reddit posts of WRB '22 BRZs go from white hot to lukewarm a few months after launch illustrates the need to keep things "fresh" to maintain hype regardless of sales.

Toyota and Suba weren't being lazy when they copied and pasted the '20 colours over to the '22 launch models - special colours for limited models were already in the pipeline.

So if this comes to fruition, are only a certain amount of cars are 10th Anniversary and the rest are just the same or are all of them are 10th Anniversary?

So we had:

2013 - Scion FRS 10 series (Silver ignition, tacky blue lit pieces)
2014 - Scion FRS Monogram series...does that count?
2015 - Scion FRS RS 1.0 (Yellow with TRD kit)
2016 - Scion FRS RS 2.0 (Lunar storm, saddle/tan interior)
2017 - Toyota 86 860 special edition (Red/orange or white, with black interior and orange stitching)
2018 - Toyota 86......What was the 2018 special edition model?
2019 - Toyota 86 TRD special edition (black, TRD kit, brembo/sachs)
2020 - Toyota 86 Hakone edition (green, saddle/tan interior, bronze wheels)

2021 - Doesnt exist (i think some markets had a 2021 but was just a carryover of 2020)

2022 - Second gen.

Seems like they missed a couple years of special editions

All years are account for.

The 2018 was the "Black" (it was actually bluish grey with black trim) and the 2019 was the TRD.
As you said There were no 21s just some 20s sold that year. That was their announced plan.
The 2022s are not a "normal" production year by a long shot. Frankly I was amazed that they made any at all. We have yet to see what the total numbers of even the regular models will be much less have expected a special edition. The while industry is screwed up this year and probably a good chunk of next so anything could happen.

You would be breaking the news if you told us what it was going to consist of - now THAT would be worthwhile news.

I guess the "black" sort of counts as it blacked out a handful of pieces that the GT trim itself didnt get (was it just mirror caps and spoiler support/ends?) and i dont think it got used after 2018.

will updated when I know of course!

If i had to guess, I would say the paint codes will be viewable in some parts of the dealer portals next. For 2022 the model codes came first, then paint codes a few weeks later IIRC

I know you probably can’t give any details but could you confirm if it’s just a cosmetic package, aero package, and/or handling package?

I would imagine it’ll likely just be a special color, possibly with interior trim pieces/anniversary badging, and no handling/performance updates (similar to the Hakone) but if there’s anything you could rule out that’d be great to hear.

Also, if I had to guess, this is when we get the red interior (hopefully).
