The 911 could have been spinning the wheels for two minutes and still could finish the quarter mile with a faster ET, yet lose the race. That is how drag racing works, right? The faster car isn't always the winner, which is why this scenario is kind of silly.
This was simulating a scenario under very specific circumstances (as a marketing gimmick), which was trying to prove a point that the Cyberbeast is fast, even when towing. It is. They just needed to set some parameters to make it look fast against the 911 because beating a 911 would be good for advertising: --Slowest 911 (Base 7 speed manual). --Slowest shifting driver. --No launch control or clutch dumps at 5k rpms. --Real race, and not just comparing times after rollout. --Lightest trailer ever, carrying a light/base Porsche. --Full battery. The Plaid keeps pulling on a Turbo S in the quarter mile, so I don't think the Cyberbeast would trail off too much up top, where the 911 would real it in, but it is possible that the Cyberbeast is set up for more low end torque over top end horsepower, which is why it has less horsepower than the Plaid, even though it has a larger battery and three motors. I think a photo finish of the 911 beating the Cybertruck by a few feat would have still been impressive, but it wouldn't have been as cool. FWIW, it was Musk who said the Cyberbeast was faster than a 911 in a quarter mile while towing a 911; it wasn't the video. The video only showed an eighth mile race, and then it posted a quarter mile time and 0-60 time, which was obviously without towing. Elon will probably say he just meant eighth mile and had a slip of the tongue, or he will say his claim was true, that he never said towing a 911 on a trailer (minus the trailer weight, it could theoretically do it), or he may give some other politician answer.

Been seeing a bunch of these now since I live in the South Bay of SF. One I saw today had the manufacturer plates. Already had some patina along its panels. Made it look kind of uglier honestly.
At least with a car and regular paint you can correct it but I'm not sure if the patina on stainless can be buffed out? Also these things are still fairly big despite iirc them being shrunk a bit since the original prototype design.

^^^^^My very least favourite reviewers. And they're based in my city. Bad jokes, weird introductions, immature acting although the buyers of the vehicles in the price ranges they review are probably all not so much.

me too
Alot of these youtube reviewers follow their formulaic schtick, but theres also clear biases when they present. Doug Demuro is annoying, and he does miss a few items in his reviews (which i find ironic, since his thing is all about the "quirks and features" and sometimes he misses some distinctive quirks lol). And his dougscore is pure BS, just made up numbers that is inconsistent with each other. The guy clearly isnt a fan of Lexus though. SavageGeese is kind of ....dull. they do the tech talk stuff which is kind of distinct. Informative nonetheless. Alex on Autos i like. He's purely informative and he does catch a few things that no one else does (like when he goes over spec sheet numbers, he uses combined front/rear legroom vs the given numbers because some manufacturesr have larger front and rear numbers but when added together they're all very similar...and if you move seats back/forth that number varies so combined is a better "realistic" metric) the Straightpipes...feels like its a copy paste off each review applied to each car...... Redline is...im mixed. He does have his biases and he is clearly into tech so that plays a role (has to be techy) and he likes his speed. (kind of similar to Doug's views now that i think about it) Motormouth....Canadian perspective. And is more of a mature point of view. They do sort of follow the spec sheets but they dont really use it to dictate their points of view. I like em. |

Raiti's Rides is what happens when you take a coked out acquaintance with you to walk a car lot shopping for a vehicle. lol You learn NOTHING about the vehicle other than esthetic points.
Motormouth is interesting, the guy was a presenter for a Canadian car review show that ran on national TV for years on from the nineties, I think on Sundays iirc. Now, he managed to stay in the game presenting with his cougar wife in BC.

I found them when they were just starting out with less than 50k subscribers, and they seemed on par with much more expensive shows like Top Gear. They had a track, had great video production, great shots, and the pair were funny and genuine, while being knowledgable. Similar goofballs, while having differences in personality: James is more goofy, amateur, and superficial/visceral in how he judges the car, while providing vehicle specifications and details, and Thomas is a more serious, driving instructor, providing a more technical overview about the car's track abilities, composure at the limits, chassis design, steering engagement, power delivery, etc.
I agree with your other critiques, which is why these guys are one of my favorites. Hagerty's time lapse builds and quality got me hooked, and they have slowly grown into a larger channel, adding more hosts. Jason Cammisa use to be a journalist that I didn't like because his reviews always seemed so negative, but I've really come to like him overall, especially his Revelations videos. Chris Harris' and Henry Catchpole's commentary are always enjoyable.
