That is pretty cheap if you compare the vehicle size, engine size, 4WD capability, turbo diesel power and gas mileage, etc. A 2023 F250 starts at $43k now—up quite a bit. Trucks are still a good value.

I don’t know if Cybertruck is playing the same value game. Fast, sure. Towing range and payload is not great for the price. Features are atypical. Tech is good, but it is relying on the weird factor, acceleration and the tech, which is fine for the premium, but this isn’t great value or the same type of Swiss Army Knife as other trucks, so it is a bummer the price jumped by $50%. Their vehicles don’t do well at luxury pricing levels. Maybe this will be the exception, but I think not. Musk was probably right when he said they dug their own grave. They do better at premium prices.
The average price of pickup trucks sold in the last few years has been sky high. Good lucking buying a base model sold to utility company fleets. And base compact models are not what dealers want on their lots. The goal is to sell pickup trucks at the higher prices points which are now quite logically crossing the six figure level from multiple suppliers. They see a market to be had and are pursuing it.

Using the GMFAMILYFIRST website (built for GM Employees but allows anyone to see local inventory) I see 30 Colorado WT trucks available within 100 miles of me, between $28K and $32K US. It ranges 50/50 between "In Transit" to on site at the dealers.

Same range, there are 42 Silverado WT between $35K and $42K. The split is more towards in stock on these but still about 50/50.

Of course if this is to be a family hauler and not a work truck none of these are going to survive first look unless you really can live with a base truck. The first 5 are single cab trucks by the way.

But, as you say, the average truck transaction is well north of these.

Oh yea, I was only looking at the lower end. There's probably 4x that number of high end trucks. I was just showing that one the lower end, there was some availability.

I'd be willing to bet you would find the same stock situation there. Apparently, dealers are inundated with optioned up pickup inventory. They will offer incentives. The average vehicle sold in 2023 was around $60K. It seems shocking but not when you factor in most large pickup trucks and SUVs.

The bumpers seem to be plastic, which isn't very truck like. Seems like stepping on the rear bumper to sort out the stuff in the bed isn't going to happen.

Cyber-SUV

T-Mad ...did the Cybertruck open the door for weird shaped trucks and cars?

Custom ...expect some interesting aftermarket designs.

Don't hate the SUV. The nose is just too long though.
