I actually installed that and felt like it was actually extremely light.

That gurgle may not go away Anthony. Maybe just do an exhaust straight up through the hood to reduce weight?

I actually never looked. It's hellaciously light though. I was going to sell it, but then once I received my new knob and found out how much heavier it is, I'm just going to keep it. I can switch between the two any time I need to go for max lightness. The Raceseng knob feels and looks better though. Unless it's hot or cold outside, then the knob feels 100 times hotter or colder. But the ergonomics are great. But... that Cusco knob is super light.

I like the gurgle. I don't like the tinny/klanginess. My catback sounded pretty tinny for about 500 miles or so, then it calmed down. Then I installed the front pipe, and we're right back to that sharp, harsh, klangy sound. It's never going to sound good, but it should get better.

For people that care about sound, don't ever ever ever get this exact setup. For people that are me though, you'll love the weight savings.

I'm also going for weight reduction, and my car sounds pretty similar to yours (you definitely have me beat on weight though). It can be unbearably loud, and I've started to get the same shit from people. I think it's important that people understand modifying for looks/sound vs. functionality. To each his own. I'm loving your build and I love the gurgle too.

Oh yeah, I understand where they're coming from. People on the internet often come across as more blunt than what they actually meant to, and I tend to keep that in mind at all times. Plus I know my reasons for doing the perceived-weird shit I do, so I welcome the opinions.

And thanks! I'm always glad to know I'm not the only one that thinks this is a great idea.

I think i am going the same route as you, shed off some weight on the car. Probably going to change the exhaust first. Jenny Craig.

If you have power, you can accelerate faster.
If you have less weight, you can accelerate faster, stop faster, corner faster, brake later, get on the power sooner, and... save gas. But who cares about gas?

This might be a dumb question but do you think making the car very light can make it dangerous when it comes to accidents?

I agree with you. If you shed off some wieghts and add little things like intake, exhaust, and tune then your car will be even faster.

Light weight + a few hp = speed

If you go stripping out safety features, YES, absolutely. Doors have metal in them specifically for getting T-boned. If you get carbon fiber doors, you're now riding around doorless, as far as safety is concerned. Same for bumpers, airbags, seatbelts, glass, etc. Just use good judgement. If it's your daily driver DON'T make it a race car.

That being said...

MOTORCYCLES.

But, I've always found setups like this just bring attention to how underpowered a four cylinder a car like this is and make them sound unbearable. It's the kind of exhaust I hate being around because it gives me a headache to hear either the drone or the popping of emptiness because the car just isn't pushing out all THAT much in the way of exhaust gasses to fill all the piping up. It goes for so many 4 cyls out there. You start putting free flowing this and that and they just start to sound brutally bad.

But, keep doing what you do. Cars are personal, as long as you love what you do
This is everyone's personal journey. What I do to my car is my thing, what you do to yours is yours, what Anthony does to his is his. In his video when he pulls out onto the street and the exhaust just gets loud...without the car moving forward fast highlights exactly what you're saying. As long as we respect each other and what we've done to our cars. That said, I'd love -200lbs off my car.

Though I will take this moment to say there will be people that I can never respect, mostly with wheels like this: // and \\.

I love this thread. Love it, I do.

I had Tillett B5s in my Miata and I actually found them to be quite comfy.

I'm not nearly as hard core as you are but the weight savings from the back seat delete and those carbon seats has got me thinking, it has.

So, will you be looking at plexiglass or lexan windows at some point? Much cheaper than carbon fibre bits. Then again, you'd lose functioning side windows so maybe the rear window only. Hmm.

Also - final drive gears and carbon driveshaft!
