A few have adopted the use of 2 stroke oil, however I believe they will make an effort to correct the issue.

To go to the extreme and say this vehicle will fail because of this issue is a little far fetched.

We placed the car in the shop to get service before we started the bigger mods. The chirping has returned.

Especially since this is a known issue, they shouldn't look at the aftermarket intake and deny it.

In addition the Magnuson-Moss act protects consumers against situations where a warranty is denied due to a non related part.

I pretty much agree with you, it is unacceptable. But here's the reality of the situation: There aren't many of these cars out there, it's not a mass-market vehicle, so it just isn't going to get the kind of attention (in terms of media, or from the manufacturer) that a Camry or Accord would get. (If this sort of thing happened with one of those cars, you can bet it would be in the news.) So in some sense, we'll likely be on our own for a significant amount of time (possibly the whole time we own the car) to deal with the issue, which remember, neither Toyota or Subaru really acknowledges that it's a problem (in the sense that it causes damage to the engine, fuel pump, etc).

Seriously though, check that site for some non-ethanol gas and if there is some remotely nearby, go get some, you'll be happy you did. I've found that not only are the crickets gone, but the car runs SO much nicer - it just sounds happier with 92 non-ethanol gas.

I hate to bring it back for another fuel pump replacement, and we don't have none ethanol gas here in San Francisco bay area. Sorry but I can't stand the noise.

Agree 100%! to add to the

10% Ethanol- :Loud crickets, idle dip, and strange pulsing sound from foot well (see here) http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showt...hlight=pulsing

Switched to ethanol free gas- All abnormal sounds gone after a using 1/4 tank of ethanol free gas (not placebo!)

Really all we can do if you are wanting to take the legal route is wait for them to release the 2014 models. If they don't have the chirp then that will most likely significantly affect our resale values and we have good grounds then.

perhaps the 2014 models will have a new fuel pump that can be used on the 2013 models!

Let's pray to the Toyota gods that they smarten up and fix their shit

Let's hope for a fix! It's only a matter of time before they develop a fuel pump or fix to adjust to the higher ethanol levels.

Thanks @Opie
Is there a revised Chirp TSB for the FRS? I rather not bring it in knowing they still have the old one and have anyone done this TSB yet? If so does it remove the chirp after adding some mileage to it?

The scion one is identical. It appears that Subaru is playing catch up on this one.

I haven't been following this thread very closely, but does the latest TSB permanently fix the chirping?
