I wouldn't bother. Going to a higher viscosity oil might give you less noise..
But adversely affect shifting.. Especially when cold. The diff shouldn't be noisy.. Maybe during tight turns .. Or buy a BMW where their dual mass clutch and flywheel is uber engineered and they pad the interior inside real good and it adds hundreds of pounds and thousands of dollars.. This car is kinda raw.. It's all feedback and noises which adds to the experience..

sounds like a bad throw out bearing. I had this issue in my tacoma X-Runner (6MT) a few years back.

Reasons for a throw out bearing to go bad:

-keeping your foot on the clutch at stop lights or other times when it is not needed.

-the excessive heat from track use

it's definitely not normal to hear that kind of chatter, especially if it's intermittent like that. I have this very issue as well although not quite as loud. I also have a bit of a clack when engaging/disengaging the clutch. it's been going on since about 1000 miles. I'm at 8000 on the clock now. Still driving it like I stole it.

Side note, toyota and subaru don't seem to let their techs do anything moderately invasive. They will most like just replace the transmission if it's anything not clutch related.

I've had the same noise since my car was new. There is another long thread somewhere in this forum called "flywheel rattle" where people complained about the same thing.

For me, it only happens on a cold start. It sounds like a "jar of marbles". Pushing the clutch in makes it go away. It goes away on its own after car is warmed up.

I've been putting it off but I suppose it's time to get this on video and take my car in.

Hey guys. Sorry to bump a year old thread, but I figured that I would post here instead of starting a new one since Im experiencing what seems to be the same issue.

Apparently I get a chattering noise ONLY on cold starts, and when I press the clutch pedal in and let go once, it goes away compeletely and doesnt come back even when driving. Im assuming it is the input shaft bearing making the chatter? The thing is, this just started happening AFTER I changed the transmission fluid with Motul Gear 300 this past Saturday.

Has this happened to anyone else whos changed out their tranny fluid?

So has it been determined that it is the clutch assembly or something I should take into the dealer to have the transmission checked out/changed?

The throw out bearing causes the issue on cold start. Mine has done this since new. Dealer shoved it off. I plan to change it out myself.
