Drive mine all,the time. Crappy all seasons and some wet icy roads is always fun. This is not a garage queen, if yours is, I feel bad for you. These things will depreciate so badly and you never use it, seems like a waste.

I like nice things, But I also use old stuff when I can save unnecessary wear & tear. BTW, I feel bad for you too

Snow and rain, road salt, sub-zero temperatures, slippery roads and clueless drivers aren’t exactly ideal conditions to expose my prized ride to.

Putting it away is quite cheap insurance to keep it looking good for a long time.
Having a second vehicle available and free safe storage space makes it a no brainer for me. But I never always had this choice in the past and agree 100% in the end its just a cheap car. Would I drive it in winter. Hell yes! But have no reason to at this time.

Have you checked out an engine bay of 5 yr old cars that ran in winter slush where they use salt? I would rather work on the one that never saw this accelerated corrosion.

Every time you brush snow and ice off it your lining yourself up for a long spring detailing.

When I take it out this spring it will feel and look like a brand new car, just as I left it.

Is your car special to you?

Thank you, I'm glad at least there are a few people who feel the same way. I don't think people who have beaters to drive in the winter should be ridiculed for not driving their favorite toy in the crap that is February in WI. That's what my Civic is for. (And I totally understand that not everyone can afford to have a second car)

And I get it, with the right tires you can drive it in any conditions, and that a BRZ is no 100k car that needs to hold it's value, but despite this car only being 30k, I still want to treat it as if it worth way more... because to me it IS.

There a lot of northern Members here that hide their “precious” for the winter, they’ll show up soon…

the 86 is a riot in the snow. but it's my tinkering car, and encouraging rust on the car i enjoy taking apart isn't my idea of fun. so the car is stored away until the salt monster is vanquished.

Now I am and it has only been 3 days. Both are safe inside, if I need to go anywhere I will take the truck until the ice clears.

Ok. That's a thing.

Not feeling sorry for you though.
Only worried the power may shut off here shortly.

Very special. My 04 WRX is even more special and loves winters. I go out every time it snows and have a blast. With snow tires it’s unstoppable. Sure she does not look brand new but for 18 years old she looks pretty good and I never hid her away. Silver color helps.

Not beating anyone up, maybe just poking some fun. it’s your car do what you want, but you are most likely just keeping it nice for the next owner. And I get that spring feeling driving it again. I feel the same way when the summer tires go back on and grip comes back.

WRX: great tool to face a real winter. My grey car looks so much better coated in salt as it hides the rust spots and turns trendy white.

The OP had asked our thoughts on having a car put away and what to do before the fun can resume with it,

I got a bit triggered reading the mostly alternate opinions instead and your post was the last one I read.

But gave me a chuckle as well with the comment..

Im not keeping the BRZ for anyone else (but some may)as I already got 50KM K (That’s 30k Miles) and hardly drove it in 2000

due to a pause in my travel life. I rarely sold past vehicles, since 1977 they usually get stolen, turn to rust with high mileage or destroyed while in service around here and i don’t see that changing much.

To keep on topic, while I wait for warmer weather I pass a lot of time on Google maps planning for future nowhere trips and visits in the BRZ if/when all of NA opens up again.

The BRZ right now is looking unbelievably clean & shiny just doing nothing and that alright by me.

1- I store my BRZ in winter.
2- It's nowhere near a garage queen.
3- I keep my vehicles forever. Last car kept for 18 yrs.
4- It's an inexpensive sport car.
5- At my age, I can afford a second vehicle.
6- I've had motorcycles since I was 18, so having something in the garage for the
winter is not foreign.
7- We all justify our decisions.
8- Vive la différence.
9- Running out of reasons/ideas.
10- I like round numbers so I put this in.

I don't miss mine because I drive it every day. Of course I live in NC and it's been a few years since we've seen snow. I'm pretty sure my county doesn't actually own a snow plow, never mind a sanding truck.

the park uses cinders instead of salt. playful driving will remove paint. lots.

i wait for rain to take the salt away. (there seems to be some novice salt truck drivers this year that don't know to shut off the slinger/speader before they stop. must not be an app for it)
