Issue with 2020 Head Unit - Door Speakers dead

I have a 2020 Hakone Edition that has mostly been in the garage since I purchased it in late October. I commented here when I purchased it that the new head unit is nice in that it has Android Auto. With my latest update on my Galaxy S9 to Android 10, it mostly works pretty well. However, the sound quality of the head unit SUCKS! No bass on very tepid mid range. Everything sounds tinny.

Today, I put on a fairly bass rich classical music channel on FM while the car was stopped, opened the drivers door, and listened to the door speaker. NADA, NO SOUND, NOTHING. There is a speaker in the door as I can see it when I shine a flashlight into the grill. However, for some reason, it doesn't appear to be driven by the head unit.

If you have a 2020 Toyota 86, let me know if you are experiencing the same problem. TCOAT, I think you have a Hakone edition now. Check this out.

Thanks, all.

Doug

UPDATE: March 19 - The Harmon Kardon HU was improperly installed at the port. There is an amplifier bypass plug that is supposed to be installed on one of the cables in the trunk. The amp fuse under the dash is also supposed to be removed. The installer (at the New Jersey port where these came in) apparently did the job incorrectly and just zip tied the plug to the cable but did not plug it in. Thanks to BobHarp for finding this.

Is it possible that for whatever reason the speakers weren't connected to the back of the unit? Might need to take the headunit to find out though.

I don't pick it up for 15 days, 1 hour, 8 minutes and 42 seconds yet.
I did play with the sound though and it sounded slightly better than my 14. Since the subs are in the door it makes sense you have no bass if it isn't working. Probably something simple like a plug not in all the way.

I do hope by "in the garage" you mean yours not theirs!

If the same head unit is used in other vehicles, it could be set up for one of them by mistake. Mine was configured for a Scion Tc when I bought the car new.

Mine was as well but all the speakers works. They just sounded like crap.

The door speakers are run off of a small amp in the trunk. ( at least on the older models. Not sure for he 2020, but its worth lifting the carpet in the trunk and looking) You may have a blown fuse. Or maybe the plug on the amp is disconnected. It could be a number of things.

Book appointment. Take time to take car in. Wait around for god only knows until they get to it. Get car back. Drive home.

Or

Take 5 minutes to check amp connections first. If no issue found THEN go through first option.

Yeah but you can still answer emails and troll the web if someone else is driving.

Doesn't mean you can't take a quick look yourself first.
I do nothing beyond checking my oil and adding windshield washer fluid to my cars these days and would still check the amp plugs before taking the car in.
