I also hated Hawk HPS pads...like a lot...on previous cars.
Dan has been recommending the new HPS 5.0 and he was a HPS hater like me in the past.
I trust his judgement so I'm going to give them a shot for my next street pads.

Stoptech sport are pretty good and inexpensive too.

I don't like stock pads for the street. They just don't feel good to me.
OEM rotors are fine.
OEM lines are fine.
Make sure you're using fresh fluid that matches your usage.

People will go on and on about how it makes the pedal feel less squishy, more responsive, yada yada. It's metal on the outside, it has to be stiffer then that squishy rubber right!

Steel braided brake lines use the same plastics inside as the OEM rubber coated lines to hold brake fluid. However as the brake lines age the plastic gets old, less stiff, it does get squishy. Flexible brake lines are a maintenance item on any car in service long enough or used in harsh enough conditions.

For a new-ish street driven car say <10 years old it's a waste of money imho. Heavy track use cars (the 0.01% who spend like dozens of hours on track per month) should likely replace every season or two, the rest of us are somewhere in the middle.

Depends also from "sensibility" of butt dyno/leg . My sensitivity probably sucks, i felt only changes between pads & tires regarding braking, but installed MC brace and braided lines .. somehow not. But if people tell that it improves noticeably feel for them .. i can only deduct that it depends on person and bad inconsistent driver like i am is not to judge.

I don't like the stock pads either - nothing wrong with stopping power, but I'd like to get more initial bite. Would the Stoptech Sport be better than the stock pads? I'm also thinking of the Winmax W2, any experience with those?

Edit: usage is purely street with spirited back road runs, no track or autocross.

I was same, same and same as you.

Went with the TRD Pads Front and Rear and loved them. Initial bite was way up and they had a great feel.

And if you shop around you can find them pretty cheap.

I wonder that as well. I installed them before taking trip to Mont Tremblant, and immediately the brakes felt soft, so much so that I bled and rebled them before heading out. They also felt noticeably less grabby than OEM pads. I figured maybe they needed some heat? 1st session out on them was *bad*. The pedal started going to the floor by then end of one hot lap! After that it was *extreme* management and downshifting way early to use engine braking to help slow the car. Rebled again, went back out, same thing. Once more and I was done with those pads. And they were done as well, already pretty much gone. Threw the OEM S2000 pads back in and dam if they weren't 1000x better (and OEM s2000 pads are not really trackworthy).

HPS were so very terrible I do wonder if they were a "bad batch". In any case, never again! Interstingly enough i had great success at the track with HP+ pads, which plenty of S2k-ers proclaimed as useless at the track...

Loved them on my old Golf and really liked them on my E46 BMW (they weren't as good as what was on the car when I bought it but I don't know what those were).

Just wondering if upgrading your stock brakes to a BBK, or even the Performance Package's Brembo setup, requires a more robust brake booster?

How is the dust compared to the stock pads that come with the Brembos?

The brake booster is the same for PP brakes or base model brakes.

Have not tried Winmax W2, but thought about it.

I don't even like a ton of initial bite...but OEM just ain't it for me.

Just something I heard but I couldn't find it referenced anywhere. I've always heard that the stock brake booster was pretty oversized already.

Couple things here....

The TRD Pads are for the standard Calipers, not the Brembo units.

And my car had black wheels, so it was difficult to notice any increase in dusting.

I was hoping it was for your current car.
