  • Last June put down a deposit on a C8 before the car was even officially revealed.
  • Last Sept the UAW went on strike and delayed start of production by about 1-1/2 months.
  • Feb 27th my C8 was built and held with all early cars for an extended quality control period (normal for a new model).
  • Mar 16th delivered to the Toledo Ohio rail yard to start it's journey home.
....and that's it. As far as anyone can tell, it's still sitting in Toledo. Hopefully some time GM and CN can get their act together and figure out how to actually deliver the car.

Could be worse -- I heard of one fellow in the States who died of Covid-19 while waiting for his C8 to be delivered. His widow had to call the dealer to cancel the order. Makes my problems seem insignificant.

Hmmm, don't want to end this post on such a gloomy note so let me add that all are healthy here, and the C6 still provides grins when exercising it on our sunny spring days.

Cheers!
Yeezus. Where Alanis Morisette Ironic. Sucks that your car is just sitting there. Did you stick with red?

Sucks even more when other C8's have already been delivered by train all across Canada, including some that were built later on. Dunno why mine is stuck in purgatory.

Yes, I went with bright red. Predictable, huh? I was hoping to go for yellow but unfortunately their new yellow is more like "highlighter yellow" or "high visibility vest yellow" i.e. has a lot of green in it. Not to my taste.

I'm also very likely to replace my FR-S with a new BRZ this spring. The FR-S may not have many miles on it but years of Ottawa winters have taken their toll. Looking around at what else is available, there just isn't anything that appeals to me the way the twins do.

Between the C8 and a new BRZ, it's turning out to be an expensive year for the old budget!

Well played sir. You are right . There really isn't much out there these days that can compete with the twins. Hopefully the C8 shows up soon and I would love an opportunity to come out and have a look at it.Stay safe my friend.

You bet. When it arrives I'll be zipping around as much as I dare to accumulate those break-in miles ASAP. Be glad to head out your way too. Unfortunately I guess a ride is out of the question unless things turn dramatically better in the near future, the cockpit isn't wide enough for social distancing.

And by truck. I passed a whole truck load of them going down the 401 last Thursday.

Two. As well as two yellow, a silver and a blue. Couldn't tell what the front two were as they were wrapped more than the rest.

Yup, Southern Ontario gets their C8s by truck. Why GM can't send trucks another 300 or 400 km further east to Ottawa, I dunno. Guess it costs an extra 10 bucks per unit.

Instead what happens is the cars are unloaded from a truck at the Toledo Ohio rail yard. Then they're loaded onto a train and sent to Montreal where they're unloaded again. Finally they're loaded onto another truck and hauled back west to Ottawa where they're unloaded once more. Sheesh, could they have found a more convoluted route?

Ah well, have to make do with other springtime distractions...

Yup, so I went ahead a bought a replacement "winter beater". Red again since I'm utterly predictable. A base BRZ this time instead of a Toyota 86. Should be here in a couple of months if they can't find a dealer trade somewhere (red is not as common as other colours).

Edit: Interesting enough, the price is almost identical to the FR-S back in 2012. Base price has crept up as various niceties have been added over the years, but the discounts have risen too. List price is 200 bucks less than it was 2012.

I missed your reply.
It tends to move around town.

We all went to the meet in Kanata for a while before it got shut down due to assbaggery.

If you use Facebook feel free to join the FT86 group of Ottawa. We are much more active on there and meets tend to get organized weekly.
