Anyone who had a Scion tC regret switching to the FR-S?

I'm really struggling making the decision to give up my tC for this car. I love the look and feel of the FR-S, but I'm apprehensive about giving up a vehicle I've had 0 issues with over the past 5 years (2008 scion tC with 45k miles). I guess I'm worried I might encounter issues with a 1st-series vehicle, making me long for my tC back. Can I get some input from you former tC owners that gave it up for an FR-S?

I don't have a tC, but if I were in your position I would keep the tC and wait a year (possibly even two) to get all the bugs fixed from a first gen model. You have time on your side, remember that.

I switched from a 2007 tC to the FR-S. I do miss the cargo room I had on the tC, but the FR-S is by far a more sporty and fun car. I would agree with Books to maybe wait a year, get the tC paid off and wait and see.

+1, I agree... Although my FR-S is treating me good so far... Hopefully it continues this way.

I'd say stay with the decision you're more comfortable with... If you've been fully happy with the TC, and you're really not in the need for a 'sports car experience'... I'd hold off until you really feel it's the right time.

I am coming from a 2005 scion tC supercharged. Made it up to 234,000 miles before the motor gave out. So i was forced to get a new car. But i do not regret getting my BRZ at all. IN my opinion if you haven't had any issues with the car you should just keep it. BTW not all first gen cars will have issues. My tC was one of the early first gen ones and never had any real issues out of it outside of normal wear and tear.

Being a previous tC owner, I've come to realize that the tC and the FR-S are two completely different cars. Though they're both small sport compact spirited drivers, the tC is more practical for day to day activities. Having said that, the FR-S is definitely more fun to drive.

I gave my '05 tC to my brother back in '10, and purchased a Lexus, but have now gone back full circle to pick up an FR-S, and although there are a few kinks that still need to be worked out, I don't regret my purchase one bit! After going from an FWD to RWD car, I don't think I could go back to FWD any time soon.

If you can wait, then I would wait for the '14 model FR-S to come out; I personally couldn't wait because my Lexus was slowly breaking down on me (it had 200k miles), so that made my decision quite easy. Good luck w/ your decision in moving forward!

as with everyone else, i came from a second gen (2012) tC.
I dont regret it, but they are different cars, i defintely miss the room in the TC but thats also because i carry a babyseat around.

But no regrets. FRS feels a lot better than the TC overall

Came from a tC1. Hell, no, I don't regret it. Not one bit. The FR-S is, for me, better in every possible way.

If you are happy with the tC, I would stay with it for a bit longer while the dust settles from the FRS launch. Esp if you have no immediate need to get rid of the tC.

Wait till next year for a 2014 and left Toyota/Subaru work out the bugs.

thanks for the replies guys. And someone mentioned getting the tc paid off.. It already is. Me switching to the FR-S would merely be me wanting the sports car feel. Financially, I can make the switch. I just don't want to pick up the FR-S and start longing for the tC..

Notably these things:
-steering wheel mounted stereo control
-cargo space
-the premier (upgraded pioneer) stereo in the tC. Not sure how I feel about the bespoke.
-no mechanical issues (i've seen some complaints about clunking sounds when shifting and various other things with the FR-S).

Came from a 07 tC and i dont regret my decision on trading it it for my FRS. Had about 100,000 and still gave me about 7200 for it.... There is a thing called a "warranty" so why worry about bugs that need to be fixed when youll have them fixed for free!

Okay you can upgrade stereo to your liking.... Sound quality in FRs isnt bad due to 8 speakers in it. Yes subs are gonna be a must but your poineer deck comes "pre-amped" (first ever that unique audio has ever seen).... Are steering wheel functionality a key thing into buying a car these days? i dont believe sooo. If you dont like bespoke dont upgrade = ). And with mechanical issues, there is a thing called, a "warranty"

I don't miss the steering wheel audio controls. I thought I would, but the stereo in the FR-S is right there next to you, and everything you need quickly (volume, skip forward/back) is on the extreme left side of the head unit, within easy reach.

How often do you carry a lot of stuff? I found I hardly ever needed it. The tC's hatch does make it easier to get things in and out, but with the back seats in the FR-S dropped there's plenty of room back there. The rear seats in the tC are much more spacious, but are you going to use the rear seats? If not, just call the FR-S a two-seater and keep the backseat down all the time.
