Experience Installing the Works Stage 2 Turbo Kit

I recently installed a Works Stage 2 Turbo Kit that used my existing OFT Flex Fuel System.

I am delighted with the results and wanted to share some of my experience with all those who are interested in this CARB compliant turbo kit. If you persevere watching all the videos you will see this was a driveway install that ended up with me requesting help from Works. That said they were brilliant and everything ended well.

I made some install videos but the one most people would be interested in is the dyno session to produce an Open Flash based flex fuel tune. Here are some links:

I now may have a reason to keep my NIB OpenFlash Flex Fuel Kit. Great vids, thanks!

The series is pretty much finished other than recording an impression after a month or so. Let me know if you have any questions.

CARB compliant Works Turbo kit with non-CARB compliant FlexFuel kit with non-CARB compliant OpenFlash tune is a non-CARB compliant car... Just because someone may ask.

My car is already there for a 2017+ kit so no real questions on my end.

Maybe an update on what the issue was and how the issue was solved.

In the future, I'll eventually be upgrading to a gtx2867 or gtx2967 which uses the T25 SR20 style 5-bolt exhaust compressor housing. So I'm curious as to why yours did not fit. There are 2 other people I know on here that have upgraded to gtx turbos which fit the works plumbing.

When I first saw your video I thought you may have been given a turbo with an RB26 style T25 5-bolt exhaust wheel housing. But there are a few times when you can pause the video just right and see that it is an SR20 style exhaust compressor housing. The skyline version would make your turbo sit slightly off but that theory is now out the window.

The turbo I have is a GT2860RS with the the T25 SR20 style 5-bolt exhaust compressor housing. It appears that the compressor housing is a little different from the original journal bearing turbo. This caused the compressor intake plumbing to end up too close to the strut tower. Works redesigned and installed a new up pipe to give more clearance.

The other issue was the waste gate actuator that was also too close to the strut tower. Here they added some spacers on the actuator bracket and clocked the compressor by a few degrees to make it all fit within spec.

Works were surprised by the issues I had because other people have installed similar turbos with no issues. They now have the information in house to make sure this issue is fixed.

Very interesting!

The other guys running ball bearing turbos are GTX series turbos. Funny that the GT, GT(Ball Bearing) and GTX turbos were made to have such a slight difference in dimension. Either way this was a very well done series of videos with a very educational outcome.
