Toyota did build the FT-86 Open Concept car. Plus there have been several STi and TRD concepts shown. Too bad the bean counters can't see past their ledgers to green light some of these concepts.

The. BS with a turbo 1st gen in development was a bit much.

I happen to know for a fact that gen 3 will have an afterburner.

I guess I'm in the small minority here, I think it looks good. I also like the Miata RF, even though I'd still buy the convertible over the RF.

Yes, Miata would be the closest to a theoretical drop top version of GR86/BRZ.

Will need some suspension mods though to make it more equivalent. A bit of leaning in the corners. (I have one).

Power : weight is close.

Well you are talking about a company that is very conservative. And very few manufacturers take risks like that. But I agree, there were some cool concepts. Hell, there were special trims available in Asia and Europe we never got that would have been awesome. The Nur Spec/Aero Package for Gen 1 was my favorite.

I agree with you, this has been proven through several studies. Personally, I don't like convertibles, they are often priced too high compared to the actual quality.

With the GEN1 there was a lot of talk during the time they were showing the concept that it was designed with a convertible version in mind, but I don't know there was ever any positive proof.
