Question New header gaskets when reinstalling?..

Hi guys,

I am going to pull my Tomei UEL header and OP off, and wrap them with DEI's Titanium stuff. I am wondering if I should buy new gaskets for this job? I have had the header on for roughly 5 months/5k miles, and this would be it's first removal. I know it's probably 'wise' but is it 'necessary?'

Thanks.

Also, I guess I should ask while I'm here: Is it even worth it to wrap the header/OP. As some of you may know, the Tomei UEL sits VERY close to the oil pan, and my oil temps have risen significantly, even with the heat shield material they send.

I know this is a HUGELY debated topic, but what are your guys' thoughts? I CAN'T afford ceramic coat at this time..

Are you tracking your car? If not then don't even bother.

However yes, you should always use new gaskets when re-installing.

Yes, I do plan on hitting up Putnam Race Park a couple times this season, and I do quite a bit of aggressive road driving, or 'canyon carving' if you will. Also might look into some autox, my works holds events in the parking lot .

It's a pain in the ass to install UEL headers, so you don't want to have to do it twice. Use new gaskets just to be sure.

This. Gaskets are cheap and easy to install when you already have everything off. But it's a pain in the ass if you have to take everything off just to install new gaskets because the old ones went bad. Not worth the risk.

for what it's worth, the head to manifold gaskets are the same as the EJ, and there are many options for those, including multi-layer steel.

What oil temps were you getting with the Tomei header on?

Can anyone confirm with that?

I had pictures, but lost them when I reflashed my phone. I was pulling my OEM manifold to weld 4x EGT and 4x O2 bungs. I bought gaskets from the Toyota dealer for the endeavor. My friend had MLS EJ gaskets for his Impreza. They were dimensionally the same.
I'm curious if the Subaru part numbers are shared with anything. I have access to Toyota cross-referencing, but am not yet familiar enough with the Subaru stuffs to cross reference them.

Where did you order them and how much were they? Im debating to buy the Tomei UEL header either new or used. The one Im about to pull the trigger will only be $100 cheaper than new and will have to buy the gaskets. What do you think, new or used (less than 500 miles)?

Used should be fine as long as there are no cracks or anything. The Tomei's are great quality, I have yet to hear of any failing.

I bought the Grimmspeed Gaskets. They were like $25 or so from ft86speedfactory.
