In busy at work reading this thread trying to catch up.

I had an asparagus bed once. Took years and a few hundred dollars to establish. For several years I would just go out in the yard and snap them off and eat them. At times I would have so much I would be giving it away. I swear in the spring I would harvest all of it, turn my back and there would be more. You could harvest every day.

Then the 5 year drought. I let my bed dry out too much and most of my roots died. I was so bummed.

eh' I can be "not busy" at the drop of a hat.

in semi-related news. my AP woman quit today. she will be here until the end of March. best news I've gotten in years. I can't stand this woman in the slightest. I could go on about why but I'll sum it up by saying I'm pretty sure her sole purpose everyday is to throw me under the bus.

We searched for an mid level EH&S Tech to work for my Windsor locations for 6 months. Had a whopping 12 applicants and interviewed 4. Offered the job to 2 and both had other offers at the same time that they went with. Finally found a guy with six years experience. Only issue that the experience was in India and he had only been in Canada for two weeks. A great guy but I have to spend more time training him than I had to spend dealing with the Windsor sites in the first place.
There is such a shortage of EH&S people in this region that I get a call from a head hunter at least twice a day. I could literally walk next door and have a job in an hour. We have the same issue trying to get engineers and equipment operators right now.

Well what are you qualified for and where would you like to work? There are probably several hundred jobs open in our company at any given time.

A "not busy at work" may be a more popular thread .....

Reminds me of the time that my three fellow agricultural research station "head personnel" were having a meeting at our research center in Mt View, CA.

We went into the Director of Research's office and said that we wanted our job titles changed from "superintendent" to "manager". He said, fine, I don't care what you put on your business card, but, you're not going to get paid any more money ....

I should not have Googled IS jobs near Powder Springs, GA. I'd forgotten that, for some reason, salary ranges spike by about 25% once you get south of VA. Sans DC and NYC.

That said, there is no shortage of openings here, either. While we really lucked out with a great security analyst fresh out of college, there has been a senior infrastructure engineer spot open for over a year now. In our case it has been a lot of people with plenty of years experience, but who can't even tell you how to modify group policy or what PowerShell does.

Yep, on a hot spring day, you can almost see the spears grow.

To maintain a healthy asparagus crown, cut the spears just below ground level (that fools the crown into thinking it hasn't produced it and will produce more).

In the late summer, let the spears grow and "go to fern", that way the plant can replenish the crowns energy supply.

A healthy crown will only be commercially viable for 5-7 years.

There ya go .......

I'm the purchasing manager and warehouse manager for a very large interior contractor. I also do to a much lesser degree have some involvement in accounts payable. I also majored in exercise science in college. don't ask how I got into the position that I'm in now. I have no idea.

If sugar puffs do then you had best see a doctor! That is not a good sign.
