I recently switched from an RX480 to a 1070. Boy am I ever glad I made that switch, and even more glad I didn't wait for Vega. 1070 performance for 1080 prices or 1080ti prices for 1080 performance. Not the best value proposition.

Also, the power consumption on the Vega is ridiculous.

Edit; Wow, just checked canadian retail prices... $700 for Vega 56 and $900 for Vega 64. What an absolute laugh.

I think pretty much everybody in our age group that even had a little technical ambition made one of those things. I also build a couple from scratch and then got a kit for my 8th or 9th birthday. Found a new kit a couple of years back and was going to get it for the grandson but figured it would be just a waste since he wouldn't have at even the slightest interest in it.

I'd wait another few months for the Ethereum rush to die down. Prices on newer gpus are supposedly stupid high right now because you can use high end gpus to mine it. Yay vector math...

I have a 1080 in my desktop rig and a 1070 in my laptop. My monitor is 1440p/144hz freesync. SHIT IS SMOOTH AS FUCK and AMD dropped the ball on vega. If you're going to be mining ether or other cryptos, go vega. If you're gaming, even if you have a freesync monitor, still go for a 1080 or 1080ti and that monitor will still be super smooth. I'm 144fps+ in almost all games at full res/quality. Even the laptop is giving me almost 60fps in 4k on my tv and almost 100 fps in most games in 1440p on my monitor. Just for context I'm mainly playing DiRT rally, project cars, overwatch, battlefield one.

Well worth every penny when talking tables. You will never regret it in the long run.

If ther is a joke there I missed it.

Just the thick skin reminded me of when I had my first ankle surgery as a 17 year old. The surgeon did inside stitches to not leave a scar, and I got the biggest scar ever. He asked if I had any Indian in my blood line because "they have thick skin and have keloid scars". I look about as Native American as Connor McGreagor.

Nah, no joke. That Native American tribe once populated the San Jose area.
