I think some of the AUS models had a spare tire, but that needed a lump in the middle of the well cover.
A doughnut is all I need. I am just concerned about getting a flat that the fix a flat won't fix and then having to have my car towed 70 miles back home. Not having a spare is stupid.

Yeah, after any shop messes with my wheels, I break the lugnuts loose and retighten. Haven't used a torque wrench before, but at least loosen and then make normal lug-wrench-tightness instead of their ridiculous air tools on max torque.

Can someone with a delivered BRZ comment on how much space there is in the spare wheel well? A lot of us need to decide if we can buy a spare and put it in there.

A full size spare will fit the same as the previous generation. It will need the floor mat with a hole in it to fit. This was based on the preview model I looked at in Australia that had the full size spare fitted.

Note: You may need to put a jumper/towel in the wheel to stop small items from falling between the wheel spokes.

Photo of the previous generation example.

im not sure a space saver tire would fit under the carpet and imo^ that doesn't look like a great option. i'll stick with the tire goop.

Has anyone tried to fit a space saver tire from the 1st gen in the 2nd gen?
Visually it looks like the 2nd gen should fit it without any problems.

If anyone has the dimensions, you can buy a doughnut for our car that is 4.9 inches wide. So hopefully that wouldn't make it too tall to fit when you take the foam thing out.

Here is the link.

I can't remember the last time I had a flat tire from a road hazard. Usually I will find a screw or nail on routine inspection and have the tire repaired. Other than that, about fifty years ago I was at a Grateful Dead concert and late into the evening when we returned to my 1959 Austin 850 Mini, I found two tires flat from sidewall punctures. There must have been a hundred other cars in the same situation. Fortunately, I had two spares mounted on ten inch wheels in the boot. I was on my way in short order. It must have been about 20 degrees out and I was not dressed to be outdoors. I gave a ride to a couple of stranded drivers. Their body heat helped inside that wretched car as the heater was a one fan speed recirculating unit that only protected your feet from frostbite. My thoughts on a repair kit vs. a full or compact spare? From experience, the only way you will never need them is if you have one or the other.

Just pulled a 4" roofing nail out of one of my tires - luckily I was close to home, and my portable air compressor, to get me to a shop. Punctured the tire in 2 places. Car only has 800km on it. I now have a small 12V compressor in the trunk...

A compressor is a good idea to have anyways. Even with a spare tire, you might find it underinflated when it's finally time to use it.

For a couple of nail issues I had, a DIY tire plug kit has been useful.
One of those issues happened during a car control clinic, when an allegedly old nail left my friend's tire due to tire flexing, so the tire was losing pressure by the minute. Put the car on my scissor jack, pumped some air, plugged the tire — the tire was fine for a few weeks after that, and then decided to just put new tires on.

A scissor jack is included with '22s, right?

I once needed a spare when renting a car in a rural area.
Admittedly it was a stupid idea to drive that fast on an unpaved "highway"
I hit a stone that was in my "lane" in a blind corner...
The impact was so severe that the inside of the wheel barrel reached the caliper (the car didn't have a BBK),
and the stone caused some cosmetic damage to the rocker panel.

That being said, having a spare tire is beneficial for the piece of mind.
Will I buy a spare tire for the '22? Maybe, but not certain.

I'm willing to provide a spare from my 2020 to test with in SE PA. I don't think I can use my donut anyway with 18" rims and brembos. For science.

Yeah the 22 does still have a scissor jack. I had taken it out, not really seeing the use for it without a spare wheel, but I take your point there. I'll throw it back in.

Absolutely, I swapped the spare from my '17 BRZ into my '22 and put the tire repair kit into the '17. No problems at all.
