I think since the US is not a car market, but rather a truck and SUV market, I don't think Toyota will make the GR Corolla as track/race oriented as the GR Yaris. They're going to try to target as many people as possible, and having the CF roof will push up the price, and will turn off many of the potential buyers here. From a corporate perspective, they will profit the most by basing the GR Corolla on a fully loaded XSE trim, so actually the opposite of a hardcore model.
They seem to target the hatchback as pretty sporty. Then again, I've seen Kia and others show their econo sedans on track or drifting lol.

I bet that's exactly what they're doing because 270hp and >3000 lbs is wrx territory and if it costs >$5k more then a wrx nobody will buy it.

I dunno about that, I'd buy it over a WRX even if it cost more.

Lol that's the same argument people say about our cars vs literally everything else. Yet here we are.

? 86s weigh 600# less then a four banger Camaro and can carry two whole lunch bags that a Miata can't, the 86 fits a niche and price point nobody else does right now the closest is a Cayman or base 911 at double the price. A 2 door Yaris would have been special, but an AWD Corolla isn't.

Fanbois gonna fanboi.

As a Yaris I would have found up to $40k to make it happen, as a five door Rolla I'll let someone else pony up.

How is a 2 door Yaris special but an AWD Corolla not? That makes no sense. O_o

I wouldn't say I'm a fanboi for the GR Corolla. For me, it (as long as they don't go too absurd with differentiating it from the standard hatch) looks better than a WRX, is more practical for me, and I'm sure is a lot easier to maintain.

Paying what I paid for my 28 year-old Nissan makes me a fanboi tho

Because there are no lightweight awd cars available in the USA in over 20 years. If I want an AWD >3000# econobox I can buy an Impreza/wrx/sti, golf R/A3, 2 series, mini, or Mazda 3, or used brings a focus RS, or lancer into the equation. That formula isn't special at all, what makes the gr Yaris cool is that it is 270hp awd in a package lighter than an 86.

Safety regulations will never make a lightweight AWD car happen here.

It's built on the tnga platform and passes safety everywhere else in the world. It's pure economics why Toyota stopped selling Yaris in the USA, and Honda stopped selling the Fit. Americans don't buy small cars. They both have a longer wheelbase then a Supra, it's not like they're kei cars.

I'll survive playing with other fun cars, a hopped up Corolla just isn't high on my purchase list as much as I like the tnga platform.
