Actually due to gearing the AT gets better gas mileage than the manual. I also hear that the AT manual mode is quite good. I would test drive both if you are contemplating it this much.

Downshift. If you're in neutral the injectors are spraying. If you're coasting in gear, the motion of the wheels is spinning the crank thus not requiring the injectors to spray.

I've done both and honestly it doesn't amount to much difference. If you drive a manual constantly (I drove my MT MK1 MR2 25K miles a year) it became "automatic" because I just changed gears like I steer, instinctively.

With the AT FR-S, its the same thing, except now I use the paddles without thinking about it. Honestly, between the two, I like the paddles better than shifting.

I think you have drive and decide for yourself. One thing about the AT, remember to keep your foot in it when changing. When I first test drove it I instinctively wanted to use the accelerator pedal like you would in a manual. That made the first few shifts in the AT/Manual a little awkward.

Neutral if I'm not trying to stop, downshift if I have to stop. If I have to waste all the hard earned momentum of the car, might as well enjoy the sound of the engine burning it off at 5000rpm

@Dimman are there any other cam grinders you can recommend? I'm looking at some in the South/Midwest cuz the Delta guy told me 300 bucks for the weld and grind, higher than what the salesperson told me last year 300 is quite a lot, I could probably just ask Crower to send me a Stage 1 for that much. Webcam said 410 bucks which is crazy, I can get a brand new set of Crower intake and exhaust for less.

$300 sounds cheap to me. I think my buddy paid $1200 for his custom grinds, but it was for two cams (In/Ex) for a straight 6.

For the time, skill and frustratingly specialised equipment, that's not a bad price.

You gotta pay to play.

Probably a GTI - the newer-ish ones 2010+

Thanks! I wasn't referring to the Twins specifically, but I get what you mean

Hmm maybe, I have so much fun driving my friend's manual cars, but feel bored driving autos, but I feel like it later might be a hassle, but I never hear that from about 80%+ of people I ask

When it's new to you, you might hate all the clutch work. But then you get used to it. Then one day you'll find yourself in an automatic and get aggravated at how you're a slave to the brake because the asshole car wants to drive off on its own if you don't hold it down. Either way, you'll get used to it after a while. It's only aggravating in the transitional phase.

I've driven my manual in rush hour/standstill traffic in Chicago, NYC, Atlanta, Toronto, New Orleans, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, San Antonio, Orlando, Houston, etc. etc. etc., and everywhere in between on the interstates, and never once have I wished I had an automatic instead. This one time in Atlanta it was stop and go traffic up this crazy ass hill, and my leg actually started to get sore. Still was fine with it though.

Yea I'll do it for 300, but it's a little upsetting that brand new ones from Crower can be had for less...I probably should've just asked Crower if I could get the intakes separately before buying a spare core. They probably wouldn't sell me it though. In that case I feel good because I'm philosophically opposed to buying a set of cams and then having one sit around being useless. Still going to shop around a little see if someone will do it for a price in the 200s. I think it's under 3 hours of labor to do welds on 8 lobes so it should be possible?

Hrm. Crower claims their Stage 2 cams hit peak hp at 8000rpm, and they're 272 degrees. So does that mean if I have 264 stage 1 grind and move the lobe centerline back 8 degrees I get something similar? :O

Automatics kick my ass. Both my cars and my girlfriend's car are all manuals. Watching me sitting in traffic in an automatic, since it very very rarely happens, is about as entertaining as watching a new kid try to take off uphill for the first time in a manual - fucking clown show.

I friggin hate automatics. My left foot gets bored as fuck and my right hand keeps trying to shift. And the old lady wont let me fondle her with said right hand because the kid is in the back screaming about how automatics suck. So in short Manual or GTFO LOL

Hahahaha! "Kid in the back! Shutup about how automatics suck so I can fondle your mom! You're right though!"

Manual or GTFO indeed.

We have no hills in FL and according to everyone, its a normal thing you just get used to but later can't be without. So manual it is
