From my research it came down to the following. You can research more at the links the other dude posted above.
High Performance + Street comfort + Medium-high grip (to keep a DD fun and comfortable, you may choose to shop from this group because it doesn't offer the highest possible grip). Continental SportContact DW - Low price, Great wet tire Bridgestone S04 Pole Position - Low price, Great all around tire Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 - High price, superb wet and dry traction, new tech High Performance + Street comfort + High grip (more grip, lots more money) Michelin Pilot Super Sport - Highest price, Best all around in category Ultra High Performance + Street comfort + Very High grip (track or autocross, plus just comfortable enough for the street) Bridgestone RE-11A - Med price, More track oriented "version" of the Michelin Pilot Super Sport. These seem to be the most comfortable (compliant ride & low noise) "competition" oriented tires I've found. Competition with occasional street use Low price + Very high grip ("competition" tires that can be driven to the event. Some DD these, I'm trying not to (even though I own a set). Hankook RS3 MotorTrend's "Monsters of Grip" summer tire test results (that get posted a lot, this list includes two categories of tire so is kind of ambiguous) + Ninth: Pirelli P Zero + Eighth: Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec + Seventh: Toyo Proxes R1R + Sixth: Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 + Fifth: Continental ExtremeContact DW + Fourth: Hankook Ventus R-S3 + Third: Yokohama Advan Neova AD08 + Second: Bridgestone Potenza S-04 Pole Position + First: Michelin Pilot Super Sport http://www.caranddriver.com/comparis...omparison-test There's a lot more out there to read and know. Take your time, always consider the source (for bias), and most importantly your goals. |

I daily drive and track my Dunlop ZII's, I'll easily get 10k miles out of them with combined use, probably more like 20k miles.

+1 on the Michelin Pilot Super Sports. Insane amounts of grip, they give up very progressively which is great for a tail happy car and are one of the best values. The up front cost may be a bit higher, but they're a 40k mile tire that will hold up to track days.

Another +1 for Pilot Super Sports, love mine.
Great grip, good tread life and they actually work in the rain.

Another +1 for the PSS. I had a set on my Corvette Grand Sport (~450whp), and they were amazing. I felt like there was no compromise in providing a ton of grip, while being quiet, and provided a nice ride. They also seemed like they were going to last a long time (25K+ miles).
I'd also suggest the Continental DW tires as well. They aren't as good as the PSS in any category, but they are still very good all round. They are also a good bit cheaper as well. |
