Can you see the state of pads without taking the wheels?

Actually yes! I can get a good idea of how low they are. If you peek at the top or bottom of the caliper you can see. Of course, not for the inside pad though.

Except 1 particular member who's name shall not be used. It's never good enough for them.

I'm a software engineer that works with a lot of metrics, monitoring tools, and that sort of thing.

So lately I've gotten a bit tired of the 2017+ digital gauge cluster. As nice as the coolant temp/oil temp/battery voltage screen is, it reeeally sucks because it doesn't show exact numbers, and it turns monitoring your car vitals into a guessing-game, which isn't safe while in-motion.

While I do have an Ecutek Connect and a really nice app for it on my phone to make custom dashboards to monitor all kinds of metrics, I didn't really want to use that approach for full-time monitoring because it can be distracting if notifications pop up or if someone calls me, etc., since I have a work pagerduty app and all matters of things that can interrupt the screen.

So anyway, I wanted to start building out some additional monitoring that I can keep an eye on as needed.

I decided to go with a P3 gauge in the AC vent since I can connect it to my OBD for power/ground/data + 2 analog inputs if I ever want to do that, and it can present any data available from the ECU. So for now that'll give me my oil temp as an exact number, but also allow me to switch to other data if I'm so inclined.

I ordered that and should receive it this week; the install looks super easy.

After seeing @Ultramaroon and others mention it in threads that popped up while doing gauge/pod research I ordered a dash-vent block8head pod last night. And then I'll likely be ordering the Defi DF Red Racer N2 Pressure Gauge for oil pressure.

I was thinking about going with two regular gauges on the dash, but I think for now this should be enough, especially since the P3 can show multiple metrics.

I don't need to see _everything_ at once, and I'm only NA so no boost to keep track of so I figured that will all be sufficient!

I'll post when everything is installed! Or maybe the P3 first since that'll arrive first.

Apparently it may not be quite so easy. Has anyone in here installed this and have tips on how to secure the OBD2 "control box" and cabling? The P3 install video literally says something like "next, secure the box and cables" and then completely skips that part, and almost every video on YT does the same thing lol. So I'm guessing everybody has a hard time and is to embarrassed to show it on video, except one dude who has a 1 hour video on his whole process, but even he has trouble.

@Kaotic Lazagna and I were thinking of removing the dash panel under the steering wheel, which would free up space to maneuver the cables through the vent opening and down to the footwell, then figure out where to ziptie the cables, and then use velcro/command strips to stick the control box to the back of that panel, then re-install it.

if you have any tips that would be helpful
