@KevBRZ I run as low as 24psi on asphalt, 245/40/17 RE71R... As does a competitor in his STX BMW, which is a good bit heavier.

I wondered if i would be better off just selling the SSC konis top hats and all and put that money onto a set of coilovers like maybe SS1 or ST XTAs? This car is mostly gonna be a daily with some autox events here and there and couple track days, just want to have some fun locally. thanks . One concern i have is i was unaware of the decreased ground clearance of that GT exhaust till after i bought it, so i think being a daily and the fact of that exhaust prob a 1 inch drop max is prob all i want to do.
I realize I'm a full month late to this conversation but I caution you not to try running Konis with STX sized wheels/tires. The spring perch for Koni / OEM shocks is too big.

210-220 F oil temperature is not a problem at all. It's actually a perfect temperature when tracking. I highly doubt you'll see problematic temperature when doing AutoX.
I didn't think about that until afterwards unfortunately. I'll have to check next time.

I expect regular AutoX would be fine, but for schools and Test&Tune maybe not so much. For instance at the school we were doing 5-8 runs per session with maybe 30 seconds between each run.

It's also my 100k mile daily and I'm a bit concerned about cooking the engine, so I may be being a bit overcautious.

was that on a 17 x 9 or 17 x 8? i was thinking on the 17 x 8 i may be forced to run higher pressures to stop rollover or edge damage unless i do hella camber lol only reason asking is i bought new 17 x 8s and i they do make ampliforms in 17 x 9s in 40 offset so i think they should work....so if you can run that low on the 17 x 9s that is great.

Forgot that bit. 17x9, and I agree. Pretty hard to beat the 949 6ul as a workhorse that clears anything and is affordable to replace when its time.

17x8 would be great for your rain tire setup

Switch to 10w30 oil for summer/autocross use and don't worry about it too much

So I feel like a thicker oil like you suggested would serve my car well and oil has possibly contributed to my intermittent slow cam response cel that I get at autocrosses...

...but so far I've ran the Toyota stuff, with the idea that it'd be more defensible if I had to make a claim under drivetrain warranty.

+1 on going the oil cooler route if you're worried, there's the Forester cooler which might take the edge off enough for all autox to be safe, but it doesn't hold up to track lapping.
I have seen my oil temps go this high before, and maybe higher during autocross and highway driving im thinking of getting the jackson racing oil coolerName: 20190629_094004.jpg

I run an oil cooler after I saw ~250*F when doing a handful of back-to-back runs. I'm sure it's fine without, but the cooler makes me feel better about things and now I don't see much more than 210*F and cooler than that when not autoxing. I stick to 0w-20 since it's not cruising at 210*F all the time now.

I had a cooler on my STX car cause I was tracking it, but it was nice for autocross. I would see it get to 215-220F or so sitting in grid with no airflow. Get on course and oil temps dropped, haha

Yeah, low viscosity so there's less pressure and there goes the cam authority...

What are people doing to maximize 2nd gear top speed? It sounds like 8k is a fairly common rev limit. Is that pretty accurate? That's a hard decision to make without blowing a few engines to determine what is actually too high so I have nothing to go on but to be guided by other competitors! It doesn't seem like many people find the 255 Rivals to be worth the trade off? I generally find the car to be pretty decently powered in all but the slowest digs and the way I've ridden the rev limiter at national events this year I am tempted to go with 255s for nats to get the higher top speed. Has anyone tried 255s and found that the car got too weak at moderate revs? (I know this has been discussed before but things like this are always developing)

I wouldn't call 8k common, but it's not unheard of. For the '13-'16 cars bumping it up to ~7,600 is really common and gets you ~60mph, going to 8k gets you ~63 mph. The '17+ MT cars have a shorter final drive.
http://www.precisionsite.com/auto-x/tools/

I played with the math for the first time ever, if you're on the rev limiter for 1s at 7,600 rpm you can cover the same distance in ~0.95s at 8k rpm 63mph so if you can maximize it you're looking at up to 0.05s gained there and that's a linear scale so 2s at the 7.6k rev limiter is 1.9s at 8k rpm, 3s v 2.85s, etc. And that's being favorable to the higher rev limit as I'm not bothering to portion out the time it takes to rev past the lower rev limiter and get up to your new max speed.

risk vs reward, I throw away far more than a tenth of a second on dumb mistakes so upping the rev limiter isn't a priority for me, but avoiding engine troubles is.

wheel tire size

I know the sound/ normal thing seems to go with 17 x 9 245/40/17s for ultimate grip or like guys above the 255s for massive grip, but besides the top end situation, what about the increased weight? Part of my brain wants to put super lightweight wheels in 17 x 8 with lighter 235 /40 tires to decrease overall weight and gain some gearing due to the shorter tire also to get a better dig out of the hole, also thinking because these cars are tourqueless wonders lol , i guess i am thinking more shorter geared tighter events, i imagine that situation would hurt top end faster courses though....just thinking and probably too much as usual lol & maybe because i am already sitting on 17 x 8s
