I'm back! and ready for new wheels

Finally posting again, been away from the forum since my son was born and with everything happening today and a new baby didn't have a chance to get back on here or even drive as much as I would like.

But now I got a little extra money and I am on the cusp of finally buying a new set of wheels for my FRS. She has been on the OEM wheels since I bought her, and now I have to buy new tires and it seems like it is now time to buy the RPF1s I have been eyeing for 8 years! I'm looking for some feedback about my tire choice and a splurge on a TPMS tool.

I'm not trying to spend too much on tires but I also don't want to be stuck with something shitty like my current Pereli Pzeros. So I am looking at

Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4, if anyone is familiar with this tire I'd love to hear your experience.

and along with doing this my goal is to be able to swap my wheels between my cars. All my cars have TPMS and I want to buy an Autel TPMS TS508 but it is a very pricey tool and pretty specialized, my buddy gave me shit for wanting one and said to just go to a shop, but I like to do things myself and collect tools, but is this just getting a little out there for specialized expensive tools?

For tires, why not some Firestone Firehawk Indy 500, almost as good for cheaper.

Not sure about the tool , how many times will you use it.
I like tools too but sometimes I'd rather pay someone.

I don`t know about TPMS here as its not a requirement. If you have to be warned your tires are flat or leaking, what can i say. But +1 for the Bridgestone Potenza re003 adrenalins FFI500`s

Can i get 25-30k out of them like i can the MPSS/PS4S? I was thinking about these for my next set.

OP do you go to the mountains a lot in the winter or something? You live in SoCal, id assume you want summer rubber.

Can always get a tire shop to read your tpms codes via your OBD then buy a set of schrader programmable tpms sensors and just clone the current codes over to the new set of sensors. that way you can just swap w/o having to reflash a new set of codes each time and only really have to get new sensors when the batteries of them die

Yeah I sort of went that way, I did buy the tool. I wanted it for swapping wheels on my cars and to be able to help out friends and family with any TPMS issues. I ended up getting the MX programmable TPM sensors so I can match the ID to my current wheels so I won't need to do any programing when swapping wheels as you mentioned.

I wanted to get MPSS but I couldn't afford those along with wheels this time around, so I had to settle for cheaper michelins.

So what was strange, is tirerack tried to get me to buy their TPMS that can come pre installed in the wheels for $200 extra. Instead I bought that pricey TPMS tool bundle that comes with 8 programmable sensors for an extra $50.

In the end buying that tool +the programmable sensors ended up costing $100 more than not getting the tool and getting the pre installed non programmable tirerack TPM sensors. This is how I justified it, for $100 more I got the tool, +4 extra programmable TPMS

I see you alrady pulled the trigger, but FWIW, I put new rollers on my BRZ 2 years ago and went with Conti Extreme Contact Sports. Then the fucking pandemic put the binders on my travel plans. I may be able to reset those in the next couple of months. \

Enough of my whining. The ECSs may dry out before I can wear them out but as all around warm weather tires I like 'em. That said, when they're used up I may well try the Indys. Michelins are IMHO over priced for what you get. I put a set of AS3+s on my wife's V6 Camry a couple years ago and I'll consider myself lucky to get 30k out of them.

They stuck really well at first, but as they wore the grip tapered off and the noise increased. So, no more Mich'ies for me. If you're looking for summers the ECSs are good. I'll consider the Indys next time around. All seasons? I'd go for Comp 2 AS+s.

Yeah have been using Michelins for a long time then felt like trying something new and tried Pirelli Pzeros which I hated. They had such so much tread life which made it annoying to wait to wear them out. The feel of those tires just was squirrelly and unpredictable and just awful.

I was looking at the indy 500s and the bridestone eagles, but at the last min I reverted to Michelins, I know they don't last as long but my main concern was getting something that felt predictable. Now that I have another set of wheels though I will be looking around for some used ebay tires to try out some different rubber.
