If you're aiming for 250-300 whp, I would suggest you look into superchargers. If you decide on going with an SC, I'd start with a tune and maybe a catless header first.

Check the bolt-on sticky thread to get an idea of what each option will add to your car.

Drive it that way for a few months at least and when you're ready to go FI make sure to calculate your supporting mods into the cost (oil cooler, wheels/tires, brakes, etc...).

Have fun and drive safe.

So I just met with the OP since he is in my local neighborhood. Nice kid and has good taste for aesthetic mods. He does lack basic knowledge about cars so I gave him a quick 10 minute run down on things like engine layouts (V vs Inline, etc). Sounds like he plans to keep the car through college so if he does pursue FI it will have to be JRSC to be reasonably capable of passing smog. I also told him some alternatives such as exhaust and tune and the general price he would be investing.

The reason I met up with him is because I remember when I was 16 and dropping a B16 in my CRX - I was also WAY over my head but I pursued my passion anyways. OP has a lot of homework to do and I believe he will do his research if he has a strong passion for cars. I showed him my low boost pull and I'm pretty sure it blew him away how fast it really was. Low boost is 230whp on Mustang but I still beat STI's ;-) This car doesn't need a lot of power.

Good luck to you OP. There are no dumb questions, however keep doing your homework on this and you can reach your goal, while avoiding criticism for uneducated questions. Leave that traction control on, drive safe, research in your spare time and I'll see you at one of the meets!

I think you should probably sit with me for a ride, to see what a stock car is capable of, before seriously considering forced induction.

At that point, you might decide that you want to learn how to drive well, or you might decide that you'll never get to that point, and just want something that goes fast in a straight line when you floor it.

If you have no idea how to work on cars, cross any turbo kit off of your list.

I dont need like 4, 500 hp but around 250-300 would be nice which I think is all this car needs. Its my daily car but it would be nice to beat my friends wrx
There are more ways to "beat a wrx" than just in a straight line. If horsepower is what you want, I'd recommend you go to the ford dealer and trade your FRS in for a 5.0 Mustang. You'll have over double the horsepower for about the same amount of money as a RS1.0, and have a warranty to boot.

That's a very, very old article, before EcuTek had matured. If you look at posts from CSG from back then, we recommended against EcuTek at the time too.

Time have changed.

CSG - Let me tag along in shotgun
i've been meaning to track, but limited time haha

op: good luck, might want to consider breaking her in ~10k miles at at the least? get a feel for her .. I've only heard good stuff about JR's SC. I've got no personal experience, just indirect experience, with FI's
JR's SC is only with pretuned ECU in CA btw

well this thread was interesting to read. This kid's got humility, not CJSporl like personality, so no need to have daughters back by mightnight, er I mean 8 pm, in your turbo frs, K young blood?

its just the way of the internet man. the way you asked the question gave off the wrong vibe. some people here had to work a shitty job for years to make enough for this car... and they see you waltzing in like oh hey i just finished middle school and have a 30k car... btw should i blow 4-6k on a supercharger or turbo? even though i have no idea how they work and didn't put any effort into researching the question myself.

35k is alot of money man. alot of families survive on that for the whole year.

While I agree this kid is very "fortunate" to have such well off parents, at the same time we shouldn't knock him for being better off. I do understand however getting on him for not doing any research, but then again I didn't do much either I guess when I was 16....I was too busy working 40+ hours a week lol
