OTL 2Gen header 20hp+
First bespoke 2Gen catless header? Same day testing hours apart. Let the speculation begin.

I would always like to see stock, stock with tune (pump and E85), header, and then header with tune (pump and E85). Obviously, we would need to take the tuning and everything on good faith, but this looks decent.

Can you dyno it upside down and maybe under water as well?

Your joke sounds cynical, so I’ll explain: Conventional thinking is that it isn’t great to run a header without a tune. Some will because this dyno session shows gains, but there might be an O2 sensor CEL, and it might not be good under conditions where the car isn’t at WOT. The fact that it shows great gains without a tune is promising. With some manufacturers, they jump from a stock car and stock tune to headers and a custom tune, claiming big gains with the headers, but it was mostly the tune, and this is apparent after someone dynos their car with an aftermarket tune on stock headers. Those gains sometimes diminish further when someone does E85 and compares that to headers on pump gas or even with headers on E85. It is also nice to see with a catless frontpipe and with FI, but we are obviously limited in what can be done now. It can be pretty disappointing bench racing with mods only to realize on the dyno the mod gains weren’t additive. Some people may want to optimize the gains for the price. A frontpipe is typically cheaper than headers, so a frontpipe could be the better buy to eliminate one cat, which might provide most of the gains to be had, or maybe not.

What jurisdiction are all these people living in where it's legal to rip the cat(s) out of your car?

Federally, it’s not anywhere. Most places in the US don’t test for emissions though.

Absolutely. And while we are at it, all you guys who talk about “pulls” and 0-80 times, please confirm all of these were done on a track and/or at or under posted speed limits.

I think they unicorned the baseline to show gains. No way a header alone gives that much improvement. It's impossible.

Not only does it seem a lot but that power band is almost identical. It didn't change a thing other than "add power". This is also very odd.

Maybe I'm just a jerk (okay I definitely am, but) if they were confident the header was adding 20hp there wouldn't be any "maybe we'll sell these, let us know in the comments if you'd be interested" stuff. It'd be "hey, we built hands-down the best header for a FA24, give us money". And they'd get it. They seem too ready to back off on the whole thing. |

The gains seem a bit high but keep in mind the stock header has the cat integrated into it. This header is catless so installing the header is the equivalent of installing a test pipe on a car with a different exhaust setup.
