Oil change with 5W30. Did I overfill too much?

This is after running it hot and letting it sit for a few minutes. Did it again and let it sit for the whole 5 minutes as the manual says and it was a bit lower. Looks like low to full is about 1.1 qt.

Yes it’s the lower side you are looking at.

It's fine. You overfilled it just enough.

Ha, yeah agree w/ @Ultramaroon. In fact this is just about the same amount Subie dealer over-filled mine, so when I went to overfill it by ~half a quart before track days and checked, it was already there!

Is aerating the oil not a concern with boxer engines? That seems like quite a bit extra, probably a quart.

There's plenty of extra room before that happens.

It is known.

It's about 0.5 quart

The FA24 is a major oil burner, so your current oil level is ample. Be sure to check your oil frequently, they burn through oil like a 400,000 mile junker with bad rings .

Mine has used about zero oil over the past 4500 miles and 4 track days. Same as my old FA20. Honestly I've *never* owned/tracked a car that didn't need at least half a quart between 5000-mile interval changes under similar usage, but my FA engines just don't use/burn much at all.

The dipstick gets bent around and enters at quite a low angle.
It you flip it over to the other side, it will show closer to the full mark.

From low to full is 1.1 QT. I’m not 100% sure it burns. It might a bit. But nothing crazy.

Maybe yours did. Mine is still tight as a drum after 10 years, 60 Kmi. I've known plenty of owners. Not one has ever had issues with burning oil.

edit: Ok, one did have issues with his 13 but his 14 is fine.

My 13 burned/consumed a lot (half quart every 3-4 weeks - low actual miles driven) but my 14 doesn't consume any.

To expand on that - the design of the boxer in general (and these in particular) allows far more excess oil before aeration becomes a problem. Where a typical I4, V6, etc. would foam up the oil with say half a quart excess oil these engines just don't care.

I don't know for sure how much is too much (someone else probably does) but it's actually fairly routine to deliberately over-fill for track days by half a quart or more.

Curious to see the oil pressures in right turns on track with 1 quart overfill.
