Manual gearbox breather
I think my gearbox breather might be blocked. Does anyone have experience replacing or cleaning theirs? On the manual not automatic gearbox.

I don't believe that the MTs in these have a vent/breather.

Manual gearbox breather
There is a breather between the reverse and neutral position switches. It is pressed into the case though and does not look like it is removable through non-destructive means.

Ya I looked through the service manuals and they don't even show it as existing much less have a repair/replacement procedure for it.

OP, I'd gently blow air into the fill hole in a non-sexual manor and see if you can feel air venting around the cap.

If you pull that sensor out could you see where the inside of the vent is with a bore scope? Another option would be to blow smoke from a smoke machine into the fill whole. It would be slightly less erotic than what @NoHaveMSG described.

Curious about the symptoms. Is it leaking fluid out either end?

Not 100% sure but do not think it is a breather. I believe it is a over/under pressure valve. Not vented to atmosphere but there to relieve pressure if needed.

It's for sure a breather. Without it we would be losing seals. You can move it open/closed with very little effort. There is one just like it on the diff too. Gravity basically holds in closed and any positive pressure due to heat won't need much force to open it.

The breather is a check valve. The spring is between the cap and a ball. As observed at ambient temp, the transmission should maintain a slight vacuum.
