Chalk me up as another bypass valve victim. Car was frequently stalling at clutch in and idle would occasionally flutter. Otherwise car drove without major issues.

There was an audible hiss at idle (could be heard in the car if you listened closely, incredibly obvious out of the car with the hood open), pinched the vacuum hose leading to the bypass valve and it disappeared. Supercharger is just outside of warranty...

I think someone on here is looking into a homebrew replacement for the bypass valve. I also remember reading a post that mentioned Edelbrock might be developing a better bypass valve. So there is still hope.

That'd be nice, if I receive the exact same part I'm guessing it'll fail again in another couple of years. Have the new part ordered, fingers crossed the install isn't too bad.

Mines lasted 7 1/2 months. Installed brand new supercharger beginning of this year. I supposedly had the updated supercharger but I guess they weren't including bypass valve actuator as part of the update.

Be careful removing the 3 nuts that hold it in. Edelbrock over tightened mines and it couldn't come out. Another member recently had the same problem too.

Thanks for the tip, yeah I saw the photos earlier in this thread. Just thankful I shouldn't have to pull the supercharger to perform the install.

That's me. I put together a linear actuator, a standard MAP sensor (didn't want to tap into the real one and risk voltage spikes on the CANBUS line) in a small aluminum box and an arduino. Whole thing is mounted on a rail under the trim above the driver's knee. I have everything working and dialed in, just haven't actually connected the cable to the actuator arm yet because I've been busy. I think this will be an ideal solution. I also have set up a 3 position switch as an input to the arduino - in one position (valet mode) the actuator never moves and you get no boost. In economy position the actuator doesn't move until you get to 7 inches of vacuum and is fully open at 2 inches. In standard mode it gives you the nominal performance, beginning to open at 10 inches of vacuum and fully open by 5.

BUT, I moved the vacuum connector for the standard actuator from the back of the supercharger about seven months ago. It is now teed into the second nipple on the nose of the supercharger that is shared with the brake booster. I'm suspicious that sourcing the air from the back of the supercharger (which also feeds it positive pressure when under heavier throttle) is what is causing these to fail. You get a slightly softer ramp up when applying the throttle smoothly so it makes daily driving better. When you hit the gas hard you get the same level of performance.

how quickly can that linear actuator move, Toast? Any data logging for the edelbrock setup to know how much to move per change in pressure?

I am absolutely not going to package and sell them. Too many people who have no business modifying their cars do so anyway because of what they saw on the internet and then get mad when something doesn't work out. I have no idea how tuners deal with the public. I will put up pics and descriptions of what I have done along with the very simple program to run on the arduino when I am done, but again, I don't have it fully connected yet. It is currently running in parallel with the stock actuator so that I can track its movement and response.

The tune will not need to be modified because the most aggressive action of the actuator mimics the stock kit setup. Everything else is just less boost, I would expect the tables for fuel must look at the MAP sensor and see that there is less pressure. I ran the Delicious tune even when my first actuator failed and I just had the BPV valve held open with cable ties and the car ran well, even at full throttle (just really slow).

I measured the vacuum actuator arm motion and set that into the limits of the linear actuator control board. Don't remember exact distance but it is a little over an inch.

I went with a P16-P linear actuator from actuonix. It moves at least as fast as the vacuum actuator since I got the tallest gearing (it takes almost zero force to move the valve itself).

The movement vs pressure was taken from the kit actuator motion when applying vacuum with a handheld vacuum pump. The conversion of that vacuum reading to the voltage output by the MAP sensor is available online for a standard Bosch MAP sensor.

With the +17 models, sound differences aside, are there any differences between going with a catted UEL header and sticking with the OEM semi-EL unit when adding the E-Force?

Sorry if it's been covered already, but I've searched.

Not sure, i dropped it off, probably wont be done till saturday. Tomorrow is probably better day for tuning due to the heat. Since im just over 50k im having spark plugs changed as well.
