i don't notice anything different about the revving besides the different sound. also really hard to differentiate echos from the environment, from the characteristics of the recorder, from the actual sound of the motor from the drivers seat...

Is it weird that Toyota hasn't shown their version yet? It'll be the same except front bumper and wheels, right?

Maybe they are trying to let Subaru have more of the market production share this time and let them debut first. Likely gauging interest as well for production schedules. They have plenty time as its a 2022 model anyway. Oh, but yeah same thing different bumpers but probably same wheels.

Yes and no. 1st gen debut was only a few days apart. But with the Z4 and Zupra there was almost a 6 month time differences. Anyways, it isn't going to be too much longer. Tokyo auto salon is only like a month and a half away.

The split and production schedules were set a long time ago. They don't wait and see reactions and then set contracts for parts. They knew exactly how many they will make and sell before they ever released anything.
Other than a handful of "enthusiasts" and some YouTube stars nobody cares about either car anyway so Toyota is in no hurry to reveal it.

the interior might be slightly different. mainlt due to probably a different head unit and enclosure. i dont see them using the subaru unit and just changing to software to toyota like they did with the Supra.

But this enthusiast has got a handful of cash just waiting to toss at a new car dealer!

Kind of agree that Toyota's in no rush possibly due to the recently arrived Zupra. Maybe they're figuring those that don't want to wait for the 86, will relinquish and get into the Zupra even though IMO, the 2 are not interchangeable.

Not enough of them and not enough cash. There is little money to be made off the enthusiasts on a low profit niche car (including the Supra). They just hope that we will all switch to a nice Camry or Corolla when we grow up.

Folks love to knock the Corolla, but it’s a car that Toyota has pushed forward significantly in the last decade or so. My father had a 2009 XRS (the “sporty” Corolla with firmer shocks, springs etc.), and it was a handling dog compared to even a 2020 non-sport edition I recently had as a rental, a car which felt far more upscale and (dare I say it) European in its blend of ride and handling characteristics.

They're listening closely to all the shit talking people are doing on the Subaru version and perfecting theirs.
