ah s..t, you're correct, I had 18" in my mind when writing my post, but you're correct, we are talking about 17".

I'm riding on 18x8.5+45 front and 18x9.5+45 rear currently 225/40/18 on 4 wheels with a stock suspension setup. What is the maximum width rear tire I could wear without rubbing problem with stock sus ? I'm considering 235/40 or 245/40 right now.

I'm currently lowered roughly 1.2" all around on Tein Flex Z's using the factory settings on the coilovers. -0.7 camber front, -2 rear after alignment on stock wheels.

Would I be able to fit 18x9.5 245/35/18 with no problems? I really would rather not roll or modify my fenders on my '16 BRZ.

What would be the widest tire I could fit without rubbing? Thanks in advance!

18x9.5 wheels with a +48 to +35 offset should fit nicely with 245/35/18 tires.



245/35/18 are a great size tire; they are stock diameter. You will need more camber in the front for sure though. But, after that they will fit easy without rubbing.


With the correct alignment you will be able to fit some 255/35/18 tires.


I would shoot for -2 front camber at least. I have -2.5 front. I will be switching it up to -3.2 front.


-2 rear is good. I have -3 now, but want to dial it a bit back to -2.5 rear. I would not suggest more than -2.5 rear.


You will need LCA to adjust your rear camber, if you want to. I don't think you need to though. (unless your 18x9.5s are lower offset - like +25 or something like that)

I have LCA's in the rear, and adjustable end-links up front already The guys at the shop said they had a difficult time getting more camber up front while keeping the toe at 0, despite having camber plates... Ideally, I wanted -1.5 up front. Should I go back? I'd really hate to have to pay more for another adjustment.

I was hoping with -0.7 I could fit 245/35/18's without any rubbing :\

It's my understanding that adjusting front camber won't mess with the toe, correct? Since you're just moving the strut back and forth?

So after three years I'll be getting back into the 86 game soon. My previous setup was 1 inch swift lowering springs and enkei raijins 18x8.5 et45 with a 245/35 tire square setup. I've been looking at every sizing tool and examples that i can find but im wondering if a 245/40 tire would fit with out rubbing? If i remember correctly there was quite a bit of space still but it's been so long. Also im just interested in this for aesthetic purposes, i know a 245/35 will perform better but i like my meaty tire look.

45 offset wheel with a 245 on it and stock struts sounds pretty close clearance wise to me...

Its close but i loved that setup and had 0 issues with it. Just trying to figure out if the taller tire would work. From the research i've done it just might but id rather not find out the hard way lol

Alright, so I ordered my wheels (18x9.5 +38), and I'm pretty torn on 245/35 vs 255/35 Continental ExtremeContact Sports.

Conti's tend to run narrow, so, assuming I get my front camber around the -2.0~ territory, should I be able to run a 255/35 without any rubbing in the front/rear? Thanks again!

What are your suspension mods? If on springs i don't think a 255/35 is going to fit up front with -2.0 camber. You would be able to fit the 255/35 on coils up front though and you should not have any issues in the rear with springs or coils. You should look into the meaty tire thread.

Tein Flex Z, dropped about 1.2-1.5" with rear LCAs.

I actually spent about 3 hours reading through that entire thread haha, couldn't seem to find many definitive answers in regards to rubbing on this same setup though. Most people are significantly lower, running 245/35's or on +40-45 offsets.
