I am also swapping the exact same shift knob over lol.
Congratulations. Sounds like we're both early and late adopters. Any major issues through the 100K miles? If you found a MT Hakone close to home, you were very fortunate...

It was in the next state over, but they didn't charge me to find it because they advertised a MT on the lot which was "sold the day before I got there to look at it". I think it was listed online as bait and I called them out on it haha.

No issues throughout the 100K. Just regular oil changes and maintenance. Its a well built car and proved equally as reliable as all the Hondas I've owned in the past.

great thread - love the direction you're taking with the car. i'm doing something similar with mine (2018 RS; PP here in canada), and it has to do with the same reasons (maturity, LOL!).

thanks for the link earlier in the thread for the 949R build thread - that was HUGELY informative!!

So, a year & 3800 miles later, the Hornet is doing great. I recently raised the rear ~8mm, to help with sag, on drives with 2 people & a full tank, and rarely feel the rear bump stops. The cars' computer says it's gotten 22mpg, over the last 900 miles, with stage 2+ tune and my heavy foot.

Over the past $4K miles, I've been impressed with the PS4 grip, in a 235 tire. Matter of fact, I'd be tempted to put the stockers on for track, just so the car would be a bit more loose/playful. I've run 18x8.5 (~21lbs) w 235/40s, on my '13 FRS, and it felt like the car was dragging a boat anchor. Took a real commitment to break it loose in the the dry, and the added stick was taxing the OEM suspension, read added roll. I recently shopped (hard) for wheels to change out the 17.3lb, 17x8s Koenig Ampliforms, and there's very few options out there for sub 18 lb wheels with workable offsets for our cars. Hopefully, with the GR86, that will change for the better. I haven't seen anything to indicate that the wheel lug pattern has changed for the new GR. Anyone else?

The koing hypergrams are under 17lbs for 17x8.

I looked at those, and the few pics I could find, the wheel face was too flat for my taste. I suppose I could try to find a 18x8 combo with a OD that's close. Obviously, I'd have to go down at least one step in sidewall height. Post #46 here confirms my suspicion that the lug pattern will remain 5x100: https://www.*********/threads/im-at-...ing.363/page-3

It sure looks like this is the case. It looks the base model gets a 17inch wheel that looks like the current stock wheels?

Decided to try a new wheel/tire combo. TWS Bathhurst 18x8 ET35 wrapped in PS4 225/40s. The wheels are listed as 18lbs on the TWS site, so it sucks that they actually weigh 19.3 lbs (verified on 3 scales). Barring any further surprises, my current Ampliform/PS4 17x8 combo will be listed for sale locally, soon.

Looks nice. If you still looking for an exhaust to pair with that header, CSG Touring catback would be my top pick now.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm happy with the UEL header and stock exhaust, for now. If I were going to spend ~$900 for more/better noise, I'd want to make sure it was forward compatible with the gen 2 GR86. BTW, I saw a used MT Hakone on Auto Trader the other day, for $35K...that's more than $5K over what I paid for mine, new. This was the only Hakone of 5 (all used, of course) with MT. The rest were auto trans, but still priced over new car MSRP.
