factory windshield uv protection

So I'm thinking about getting my windows tinted but I can't figure out if the windshield already has some UV protection, if any.

I seem to remember that the most windshields comes with some UV protection.
Does anyone have specifications on Subaru BRZs?

All safety glass should block UV. Any tint that you put on will only be to help stop heat and light intrusion.

I got this online some time back. The windshield on the 86 cuts 99% of UV. The rest of the windows not as much.

thx @Fly Guy and @sshole, the chart assures me that at least 99% UV protection is on windshield.

Window Glass in general naturally blocks UV light. It's the reason you can fall asleep on your couch in your house during a sunny day and not wake up sun burnt like you would at the beach.

It's really quite interesting because while glass is completely transparent to visible light, if we were to see in the UV spectrum like we do in the visible light spectrum, glass would look virtually completely opaque.

It's pretty useful IMO, but don't go dark:

It's illegal in all 50 states to go more than 50% IIRC

Is this factory UV protection on one of the middle layers, or is this topically applied?

Just for the hell of it, I emailed the subaru company and asked about the windshield...

Quote:
The glass information listed below represents calculated reference values, and may not represent actual values determined by testing, except for the thickness information. The specifications for the windshield are:

Thickness - 4.76 mm
Solar penetration levels - 55.0%
UV penetration levels - 0.0% for both UVA and UVB
Visible ray light transmittance values - 75.0%
Just out of curiosity, say if the windshield tint heat rejection is 45%
0.55(factory penetration) * 0.55(heat through tint) ~= 0.30(overall heat penetration?)
Is that how the math works out?
