A052 are "the tire" for 200tw, but their cost/performance vs the RE71R cost/performance puts the RE71R ahead. If longevity is added in as a parameter, then A052 start to shine.

For brake pads, I highly recommend PFC pads. Their longevity and thermal capacity for the price is great. I used to use Cobalt XR2, which have higher bite, but they really eat rotors and would wear quickly. For HPDE, PFC has been the pad of choice for me.

I went with the Z3s last year bc I was concerned about wear. When I saw my times were much slower than my times set on RE71Rs, I swore to only buy the fastest (200tw) regardless of cost and wear. From what I have been told that is the A052. So that is what I bought. lol. They are only about $20 per tire more than the RE71Rs.

My pad selection is limited due to my Willwood calipers. I'll take a look into PFC.

Ah, I wasn't aware you were on a BBK. I'm not sure if they have one for the Wilwood calipers, but if they do, that's my recommendation.

If "one lap" is your thing, I believe RE71R is still king. But the A052s will get you within a few tenths of the RE71R, but for more than 1 lap. At least that was my experience with another 86 up in Pikes Peak International Raceway.

I was thinking of trying the new Falken RT660s. Similar tread pattern, but I'm seeing initial reports of ~.5s laptime difference according to Grassroots Motorsports' testing. Some of the side-by-side photos in other groups are showing that they're some of the widest running 200tw tires (vs RE71R and A052).

With all this free time and warmer weather I got back into wrapping my car. I am going add the black stripe I had the past few years and some numbers but keep it pretty clean besides that.

Do you go over your brake setup anywhere in this thread? I can't find anything on it.

I thought I did. I posted an article last year on my website. That article is in need of an update tho:
https://www.jherbertracing.com/post/...ake-chronicles

Front: RR Racing Stage II Willwood
Rear: RR Racing Sport Willwood

Last year I ran DTC60s front and back with DBA rotors that came with the kit. I dont think I ever got the pads in their happy temp, even at watkins glen. So I am trying to figure out what pad I am going to run this year. I am thinking of trying dtc50s in the front and 30s in the back (they dont sell 50s for the rear). This option is under 300 dollars but I dont like mixing compounds. Another option is to try G-LOC R12s. I like the G-LOC idea but I am kind of dragging my feet on 400 dollars for pads even though it is bound to happen sooner or later. This year I am also running Centric blank rotors. In this case, DBA rotors are just overpriced centric rotors with grooves in them.

DBA left, Centric right.

Speaking of things I didn't tell you guys about....

I am tired of lugging around an extra 30+ lbs of muffler and I needed a custom solution bc I cut my rear bumper. Meaning the muffler tips are low and aesthetically look weird. So I removed the muffler portion of my Q300. Then I started the car to see how it sounds without it. (Like any ricer would do) And it wasnt that much louder. So I ordered a matching flange and turndown, welded it up and voila. Sounds like a pissed off subie now.

Great part is, if I go to a track with a low dB limit, I can bolt the q300 muffler back on.

Thanks for the link to your site. Great article. Thanks for doing that.
I'm very surprised you think you aren't getting the DTC-60s up to temp. I have the AP Sprint kit with no ducts and think they work great by the beginning of my first hot lap. And that's with GT Radial Champiro SX2s, not r-comps.

I found it odd too. They worked so good on the OEM calipers with cooling! And there are a bunch of people running them with BBKs. I should mention, I didnt really give them a fair chance. I bought the BBK used and there were A LOT of issues. The rotors were bedded in with Willwood pads and I just pad slapped the DTC60s. I did notice an increase in braking bite when I removed my brake cooling. That's why I came to that theory. I wonder if I start with a fresh set of rotors if the results would be different.

Upon some research I noticed they might be a little overkill for me anyway. Other than watkins glen the tracks that I frequent are smaller and not very hard on the brakes.

I installed caliper temp stickers over the winter and will be taking brake temps all this year to study just how hot the braking system are getting.

Good to know. Thanks for the additional information. I bet even on smaller tracks you'll like them once everything else is dialed in. I think I'm near the top of their heat range now, and have considered using the 70s. I don't think I'll really change, but have considered it.

I am re-assembling the car after wrapping it. When I went to install the door handle I noticed a weight encased in plastic. My guess is to make the handle feel better when you pull it to open the door? Anywho. In the attempt to add lightness, these guys got thrown in the non-essential pile. A little excessive I know. But weight is weight.
