Interesting matchup. A bit sad that Japan doesn't have any similarly-priced MR cars. Would love to see Toyota resurrect the MR2 turbo badge (with manual option pls!), but probably 0 chance of that now.

For your info ... tires in both cars are of same type (Michelin Pilot Sport 4). In BRZ they are 215/40R18 front and rear. In A110 they are 205/40R18 front and 235/40R18 rear. I would expect a bit better track time from Alpine, given the performance difference, higher torque from low RPM, less weight and rear tire advantage. A big thumbs up for the BRZ!

I think it would have gone much faster without the BRZ in front of it, no? Didn't they get the lap time from the race?

Either way, I think the comparison is moot as the Alpine is almost twice the price for the base version and is usually pitted against the Cayman et al in comparisons

I wish Nissan could work a deal to rebadge the A110 into the new Z car.

Before running together, they were timed separately. An even better comparison would be between 86 GR and A110. It would get very close or even same time with Alpine.

The 86 held its own really well IMO. A second slower. That extra second less for the Alpine is damned expensive. Put the Alpine against a Cayman and it would get eaten alive. The low weight of the Alpine compared to the Cayman is nice though.

That's a very good point.

Love seeing the BRZ dance regardless of who won this battle.

With the assumption that this circuit is very short, hence the 42 and 43 sec lap time, I'd say that 1 second difference on a track like this is probably very big.

Tsukuba circuit, which I mainly know from racing games, is a super short track, yet faster cars are taking a minute+ to clear that, so this track has to be even shorter.

I would like to see a more equip 86 take on the Alpine though.

Yes, this is correct. The track is short and 1 second difference is a bigger difference.

About a more equiped 86/BRZ, the 86 GR car had two seconds of difference on a bigger track. Of course, it is a different track. So, it cannot give us a clear understanding of how much the time would improve with the Alpine ...

Toyota should of brought TRD 14R60. It would of been good match up. Price is bout $10k difference instead of more than double plus would of been interested to see how 14R60 could of done

Something about the A110's shape bothers me especially when you see it from all angles. I find it to be the least sexy new MR car period but I would rather have it over a lot of other cars however.
