Just found this thread - my people <3

Have been an avid gamer since my mom brought home her first work laptop and we loaded Diablo 1 and Starcraft onto it in 1998 (which came out 3 days after my birthday), and then Diablo 2 in 2000. Then in 2004 I built my first computer and have been building ever since. Current life stuff makes it harder to game, what with hunting and work, and yada yada.

CURRENT SETUP (not how this looks anymore, I moved recently)

I love the NHL games and they are the only reason I have an Xbox. Otherwise, everything is on PC and I currently have over 600 games, maybe played half of them hahaha.

SUPER stoked for Cyberpunk and Assassins Creed Valhalla. My main games are open-world RPG where I can just do whatever I want and fuck stuff up. Tom Clancy's Wildlands was one of the best games ever made. So poorly optimized, but so damn fun. Breakpoint really didn't do anything for me but it is good. Just Cause 2 is probably the best open-world RPG ever made though. I still need to play the new Ghost of Tsushima game, will probably buy a PS4 for dirt cheap just to play that game and then sell it or let it collect dust

And why 1 monitor above the other? How does that work?

So this was at my old place where I had the set-up in the living room so I will explain as best I can:

Little white/purple computer is my media PC:
- Ryzen 5 3600
- Corsair H115i AIO CPU Cooler
- EVGA GTX 1080ti FTW3 Hybrid
- 48 GB Corsair Dominator 3600 Mhz RAM
- 500GB SSD (C: Drive)
- 6TB WD Gold HDD
- 2 x 8TB WD external HDD's
- Samsung QLED Q9 65" Curved 4K TV that is just off picture to the left
- New Razer Turret for Xbox One wireless keyboard/mouse combo

(I currently have 19TB used up with TV Shows and Movies and Games on this PC)

Black/purple computer is my dedicated gaming PC:
- Ryzen 9 3800x
- Corsair H150i Pro AIO CPU Cooler
- Gigabyte Aorus GTX 2080ti
- 48 GB Corsair Dominator 3600 Mhz RAM
- 500GB Samsung Pro SSD (C: Drive)
- 1TB Samsung Pro SSD (Main Gaming Drive)
- 500G Samsung Evo SSD (Secondary Gaming Drive)
- 2TB Seagate Barracuda HDD (Randomness Drive)
- Acer Predator 27" G-SYNC 144Hz overclockable to 165Hz monitor
- Acer 27" IPS 1080p Monitor (can't remember specific model)
- Razer Ornata keyboard and Razer Abyssus mouse

The second monitor over the other is for background programs while gaming on the main gaming monitor and then my once a year streaming for Extra Life on OBS/Twitch.

They are currently split up now as the media PC is down in the second living room with the big TV and my personal PC is up in my bedroom. Once the 3080's become more available I'm going to swap one of those into the gaming PC and then drop the 2080ti into the media PC (with a new case as I don't think it will fit in that one )

It doesn't look very ergonomic to me but I guess if it isn't used very much it wouldn't be an issue.
It still makes my neck hurt looking at it though.

It actually surprisingly isn't as bad as you'd think. Plus you're barely looking at it, it's more for programs that you "set and forget" until something starts going wrong, hahaha.

I am in a toss-up of which game to get next month: Cyberpunk 2077 or Assassin's Creed Valhalla. I know Cyberpunk is going to be the superior of the two games, by far, but I feel like I'd get tired of Valhalla quicker and then can switch over to Cyberpunk. Valhalla has the bonus mission for pre-order too, Cyberpunk doesn't appear to have any?

AC "bonus" missions at launch are usually barely worth the pre order.

Get 2077 if you can only have one.

I'm waiting till Valhalla is 50% or more off.
Origins felt like a breath of fresh air and like the AC franchise was getting back on track.
Then Odyssey happened...
Being part GOD made me way too OP way too quickly in that game.

Agree with that, although I probably won't buy either this year.

I typically don't buy any game until it's 50% off, my Steam backlog is just too damn big to do otherwise. I did buy Flight Sim but that's because I use it ongoing, not one and done like other games. I've basically played Flight Sim at least a handful of time per year since 1983.

I'm just playing Odyssey now, if that gives you my normal time frame.

I don't play enough games to get anything that isn't under $20 on a Steam sale or something. I do toy with the idea of getting a new game once in a while, but life's been busy the last few years lol.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to this game too.
Something I liked about the 2nd game ( I haven't played the first) was I could play for 1/2 an hour or 5 hours straight. It wasn't very serious, it was just there to fill in time in a fun way.

That's pretty much any open world game though. You can do that with any of these (and I do as that is basically how I play them, 30 minutes to 90 minutes at a time):

Assassin's Creed Series
Fallout 3 and above
Farcry Series
Just Cause Series

I have always wanted to do Stream but I don't have time because of my work. Also, I need to set up a gaming room for it.

Yeah, this is solid advice and I think what I was leaning towards anyway, just needed someone to voice it to me

I got really tired of the AC games and then Origins kinda sucked me back in. I played a lot of Odyssey because it brought me back to the best one of them all (so far) AC4: Black Flag. Manning that pirate ship and just roaming the seas, omg I loved it so much

I hear that... my backlog is too much and I have all but given up on it. I play games so little these days what with everything to do out here in the PNW and me being more of an outdoorsman than a gamer

I do the opposite personally - whenever I game it is LONG sessions. I usually plan my entire day around just gaming the whole time, whenever I get a free day to do it that is. Usually 1 or 2 days a month

The sea battles and travel are my least favorite parts of both games, just because it feels too "arcade like" to me. I just feel like I don't have enough control, and most of the battles are designed to be overwhelming. No single ship would attack a group of two or three ships alone.

I got used to playing this way when our sons were little (all grown now). I rarely play more than an hour at a time, but I do usually play a few minutes every day as it's my winddown activity. About the only time I play all day is if it's an event with my sons. We try to get together online on a regular basis to catch up and play.
