Nah, I think we need 3 or 4 more to go way off topic on before we really get back into it here.

I asked my good dealer friend about what is going on inside toyota and dealer network. He said, toyota is super busy with marketing for GR Yaris. He also told me, if toyota abandoned GT86, then in NZ, we will be out of luck. Because, since 2017, subaru stopped selling BRZ here because they don't want to renew their license for RWD cars due to loss in sales. What a weird age we are living in.

more yes than no... many non-american cultures put more emphasis on visible appearance, i know of a number of exchange students whose parents did go into some amount of debt putting them in a way too fancy car, going to a higher cost school than they'd normally be able to afford in the hopes that they're setting their kid up for a better/brighter future that the kid will take better care of them later in life.

I actually did not understand his business word that he used. But my understanding is, may be they need some kind of approval from Road & Transport Authorities to sell different drive layout of cars. Any KIWI here in this forum knows anything about it?

I bet some percentage of them are not really rich kids, but just youtubers promoting a certain way of living.

Not at our local University! They are rich kids from all around the world. You can tell the locals since as Daith pointed out they are the ones driving hand me down beaters, or in at least one case a well used Lava FRS.

Let's just say a lot of students here have parents who are well-connected "back home" - and that some of them might be a way for those parents to move their assets to jurisdictions where rule of law makes it difficult for authorities "back home" to freeze-and-seize.

Also it puts their kids somewhere outside of "back home's" jurisdiction at the time when they are most likely to do something "stupid".

Who cares about the new BRZ/GR86, lets talk colleges!

In the US, most universities and colleges have two different tuition structures: one for state residents and the other for out-of-state residents. The theory is that state taxes fund these institutions, so that out-of-state students should pay more. The actual difference in tuition can be quite large - 10X is not unheard of, and out-of-state students represent a large funding source. In particular, foreign exchange students are actively recruited by many institutions as a revenue stream.

So there is a built in selection bias: foreign students, whose parents can afford to send them abroad for college with the very high tuition rates are by definition a wealthy group. Not surprising they drive better cars than I did when I was a broke ass student taking out loans to pay the much lower tuition of an in-state student.

Oh yeah, and I hear the new car will be bi-turbo with 400rwhp and start at under $20K, so these rich students wouldn't be caught dead in one.

The University I studied, it costs around $65K for bachelor degree for international students. Most of the international students come with brand new European cars including M4, boxters and cayman. How about local students? Yeah, they come by train or bus.

Hmmmm I read that someplace as well.

If they don't think there is enough sales for the BRZ I doubt they will bring the 86.
If it is a matter of they can't meet the Euro 6d standards with the BRZ then the same would apply to the 86 so again no deal.

BRZ sales are or were very low, probably sold circa 1000 units in total. I think that it must be the Euro standard as they will be building the RHD platform for Japan/Australia etc.
