but tis japan, this is much more normal for them than for other markets, many special edition body kits have been released for them. quite a simple mod to replace bumper + headlights. i always thought the cb bumper looked good, doesn't seem dated to me. pretty bubbly + round and a little janky with the headlight cutout on the stock fenders but still a pretty cohesive look with the rest of the car.

OTOH, if someone were to have a kit that provided all of the parts (lights, support brackets, new fog lights, etc.), I have a wonderful body man who could definitely do the work.
why wouldn't it be bolt-on? there were no "body changes" from 17+, just a bumper change, all mounting points are the same. fenders & hood are the same for all years and the stock ones are used on the cb style.. the only area that would need a swap would be the wiring harness for the headlights as the turn signals went from being separated to being combined with the headlight with the refreshed models..

Weren’t some of the mounting brackets updated for 17+? Because of the issue with Zenki models when the front bumper cover would become loose? I’m not sure if that required any additional/different mounting points.

mounting brackets as in the tabs that connect it to the fenders? bumper sag can still happen with the facelifted bumpers if you're being dumb about the tabs..there is a jdm piece you can buy that you can attach to the tabs giving you better fitment if it is a problem (https://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=108535)

either way, the bumpers are all direct swaps, there have been multiple users swapping the facelifted bumpers 86 & brz onto pre-17 cars..

without a doubt, there have been even more folks that have done that swap vs the facelifted bumpers. it is even easier for a facelifted 86 to convert over to the brz bumper since your turn signals are integrated into the headlights. think the only thing ya need aside from the bumper are the subie headlight housing, but that is like $50 bucks for both and either way just a easy 30 minute job if you're drinking some beers while you're workin.
