The Gurney Flap Thread
Please post pics of your gurney flaps!
I'm trying to decide on which one I like the most and am having a hard time finding actual pictures, especially of the Perrin and Maxton Designs one. Those in my opinion look the best. Here's the ones I know about: 1. STI 2. Perrin 3. Maxton Design 4. password JDM 5. Skuad Mfg Co another view Last edited by BR-ZED; 09-07-2018 at 10:51 PM. |

The perrin one requires drilling a bunch of holes and having some huge hardware, which was a no for me. It looks decent, except from behind.

I think all of them are pretty good, just in different ways. I'd probably go for the PJDM one, personally. It looks to be the highest quality with the simplest design.

I have the STi one and it’s literally just a strip of rubber that gets soft in the heat. Although Subaru advertises “added stability without a drag penalty”.
I’d also to like to see Maxton pictures. |

Perrin. I wasn't worried about drilling holes, I don't want my aero devices glued or taped on. |

Those with the Perrin flap, does it actually make a difference? There was an analysis done by Velox/Verus, but I'm inquiring about real life experience.

take this FWIW, but when I first got my FRS, I had problems with hydroplaning on the highway during heavy downpours- which in Tampa is every day during the summer. I had a few oh shit moments in this car, I never had in my GenPoop. Just eyeballing the FRS, I noticed that it is built for being streamlined on the highway and lacks any sort of aero devices to reduce aero lift. The Gen has a small lip, small canards and is a lot wider than the FRS. It also was a lot more stable at speed.
So I added a front lip, side skirts and rear spats and BRZ spoiler. Soon after I added the gurney flap. Since then (even on the OEM tires) I have never hydroplaned. I even tried to once at a spot on the highway I knew where it happened every time it rained. Nope, I just plowed through the rivulet. So does it make a difference? My whole aero package has made a big difference- no hydroplaning, very solid and planted at very high speeds and also, my MPG has suffered too. Will someone soon post and say that it's all in my head, akin to a butt dyno, no way proven aero technologies can work on a road car? ... yup. Do I know my car and can I tell the difference at 70 MPH? ...yup |

In F1, some teams will raise the ride height in order to prevent hydroplaning; less ground clearance will increase the risk of hydroplaning (hence, wet setup).
So having "aero" that is closer to the ground can actually hurt traction, not help it.
