I didn’t know that. Thanks!

A simple solution to this problem would be a manual shut-off valve in the oil feed or return line to stop the oil flow through the cooler. Close it during the colder months, open it back up when things start to warm up. Simple.

Any ideas on where I can find a manual shut off valve that'll fit?

Shutoff is not ok. Need to divert. It's a complicated, expensive solution. This used, purpose-built unit I found is a unicorn. You can ask @VerusEric about it.

Better to just cover it in the dead of winter.

You dont need to do anything, leave the cooler be. You dont need a block off plate, you dont need anything else just use the car. Around 70k miles, 20k of which are track only, 4 winters, 3 of which were with an oil cooler just like yours (mishimoto, but same principle with a thermostatic plate, that like all plates, even when dead cold, is still a bit open to allow some circulation), and I swapped the engine and sold my old engine which is in another car, still kicking around.

There's an oil cooler in that picture, I dont know how much colder you need as proof, but this is in Quebec, where temps below 0F is common every winter.

Was that ICAR Mirabel? I got the chance to do an event up there for work where we hosted a bunch of people and took a bunch of STi’s out on the track in the snow. One of the most fun things I’ve ever done.

Yes, that is icar. That was during one of their snow lapping days during 2016 or 2017 I think. The guy behind me works for icar and took the car out for a couple of sessions where he decided I was good enough to do tandem behind me
