Removing BRZ Limited spoiler, $1200 to fill 4 holes?!
Never been a huge fan of the stock Limited spoiler on the BRZ. Went and ordered a Five:AD lip spoiler but it covers all the holes except the top 4 (2 each side).
Dropped off my vehicle at a very good body shop I've used before to have 4 of those holes filled and the trunk partially resprayed along with painting my Five:AD lip spoiler. Total price: $1216 I specifically instructed them NOT to blend into my 1/4 panels, I want paintwork only limited to the trunk lid. So for you guys who have experience in this matter, does $1200 seem a little excessive to fill 4 holes? They promised me they will tint the paint to almost perfection. |

If you want the best of the best paint job I guess so. They might be buying you a brand new trunk for that price.

Go to a auto body supply store, they sell plastic round headed plugs you can paint and glue in the hole. Here's mine.

Sounds like typical inflated body shop pricing to me. Like everyone else says, I'd just buy a used trunk - that's my plan once I find one for the right price. Of course it won't be a picture perfect paint match but if you save enough money doing it then who cares imo, the body shop won't do any better of a job matching it.
Edit: those plugs aren't a bad idea, I did something similar to fill the front plate holes on a boxster that I used to own, they were actually sold pre-painted with factory paint and were a pretty damn good match. Someone could make some money doing that for these cars.

They would probably sand the paint down to bare metal at the holes, weld up the holes, grind smooth, Bondo, primer, base coat, and top coat. That's quite a bit of work, and standard shop rate is anywhere from $75 to about $120 per hour.

I'm thinking maybe it would have been cheaper just to buy a whole new OEM trunk for $360 and having it repainted. That way I would have my extra limited trunk untouched as a spare...damn. |

IDK if it matters to you, but if you buy another trunk lid it would not have the VIN sticker. some people care about that, some don't. I personally have thought of trading my limited trunk lid for a premium lid so I can put a duckbill on it, but the spoiler kind of grew on me

Seems reasonable to me. Good bodywork is not quick, and thus not cheap. Ask anyone that has done bodywork.

$1200 for the hole patch job is robbery, you're better off buying new trunk lid and getting it painted. new trunk lid was a bit under $500 CAD and paint was around $450 CAD. Then you can sell factory lid w/ spoiler on craigslist or whatever and recoup some money back. As far as vin stickers go, for our canadian models, there were 0 vin stickers or stamping on my trunk lid. I thoroughly inspected my old lid after removing it because that was one thing i wanted to avoid myself.
