Newbie Question

I am in the process of looking for a BRZ to purchase. I am enjoying all the great info in this forum, but have an outstanding question.

A number of BRZs I have looked at seem to have an issue with the front bumper cover, and some people have the bumper riveted on. Is there an issue with the front bumper getting loose?

@MCD73, welcome to the forum and hopefully to the club.

There have been issues reported if you remove the cover frequently as the clips wear. Folks have come up with various fixes for that.

My FRS (which tends to have the same issue) has over 210K miles on it and no issues. To be fair the front cover probably has half that many miles on it because I was front ended at one point, and it had to be replaced. But that is the only time it has been off the car.

Welcome. Yes. First gen bumper covers sag and commonly pulled away from the side clips behind the headlights. The root cause was from inadequate support at the bottom across the front. I mentioned this a couple times here but it never caught on.

Usually it's more of a problem when the bumper has been on/off a couple of times. Quick release bumper fasteners work like a charm.

Run away! Think of all the other janky crap lurking underneath. Makes me cringe.

Totally agree! I understand the need for some reasonable MODs, but...
I want to find one that hasn't been molested. I think I found one here in El Paso. The bumper cover is actually loose on one side, but I think they should be able to fix this and I'd keep an eye on it.

My 2013 BRZ did this. I upgraded to a 2017+ BRZ bumper after a box on the highway ruined my first one. After you take it off a couple times, the bumper sag comes back. It's unfortunate. Mine is to the point where itll slide off the clips. Being lowered and scraping the bumper doesn't help. It has happened a few times (I am not that lowered) but I definitely see the difference.

Funny you mentioned that because I noticed recently on my 2020 BRZ the front bumper does seem to be saggy on the passenger side. I only noticed it after i had some work done that required removing the front bumper a few times. Doesn't cause me any issues at the moment though.
