6.5in Speaker Adapters for Door - Really Necessary?

I am planning on taking out the OEM door speakers and installing JL Audio C2-650 6.5-Inch speakers in place.

Link to product: [ame="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0036D1DQI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1"]Amazon.com : JL Audio C2-650 6.5-Inch 2-Way Component Speaker System : Component Vehicle Speaker Systems : Car Electronics[/ame]

My question is, are the 6.5 adapters that some people on here make really necessary? Why cant we just re-use the plastic mount that the OEM speaker is using?

Does mounting depth have anything to do with it?

For those who are interested, the mounting dept of these speakers is 2 7/16th inches.

I have no problem trimming the inside of the door panel if it interferes with the speaker, I just dont know if or why a 6.5 in speaker adapter for the door speakers is really necessary.

Thanks.

The hole is too big, and the factory plastic adapter is glued to the speaker.
