ECU Not Recognized After ECUTEK flash fail

Hi all,

I just installed a new turbo kit on my 2018 toyota 86, and was in the process of tuning it with ECUTEK. My Tuner sent me a rom file to install but in the middle of the process the cable slipped out of the PC and the tune failed to finish installing. Now the ECU is not detected by proEcu anymore and even when I manually pick the car, when I query the ECU or try to install the rom again, it gives an alert saying "This appears to be a part programmed ECU" and then fails saying the vin numbers don't match but it's not acutally reading the cars vin number. It's also showing unknown ECU Version Cal.id = ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ. I've tried pulling the battery for a while and retrying it but no luck. I've already tried to take the battery out for 30 ish minutes and try again, still shows unknown ecu id and says vin() doesnt match the one on rom which is (JF1......)

any help would be appreciated

If you have already followed the ecutek recovery proceedure here

https://ecutek.zendesk.com/hc/en-gb/...8-ECU-Recovery

ie manually selected ecu type then flash a stock rom of correct calid

then you will need to contact ecutek directly in England they will try remote recovery or you may need to send them ecu

Ok

vin is not like ZA1JN10C thats the ecu calid

if the ecu flash failed the calid eill be rubvish or not there so dont worry

Dont try to read ecu or do query ecu on a part programmed ecu you jist get rubbish amd failures

Do as in the ecutek recovery

Remve battery terminal replace terminal
Then Turn ignition on and do the recovery straight away
dont try and start car do do query ecu

Manually select vehicle type and ecu type
select a stock om of correct ecu calid and then flash it

you may need to get tuner or ecutek to re issue flash points as you likely lost ecutek licience in ecu

I did everything they said, issue is when I select manual and do it, it still says VIN does not match the one on the ROM and shows the VIN as an empty string. I have contacted them, they're closed over the weekend, hopefully Monday I can get up and running

Thank you, I did remove the battery and try to do so, but it gives me the following message, it like does not even let me flash it to the previous ROM. Where can I find the stock one, that might help, because ECUTEK shows the stock tunes only if it sees the VIN numbero or the Cal.Id which for mine it shows neither. It only shows the following message

Ecutek comes with all stock roms in directory C:/ecutek/,proecuRom files

Just an update on this.

Thank you again @steve99 for all your help. Following your recommendation, I tried flashing the stock rom on the car but it seems like ECU wiped my license so after the weekend, I contacted the tuners, they corrected the issue and added some flash points onto the dongle. I was able to flash the stock then the customized one and was able to get the car fully tuned yesterday.

Just a little tip for everyone, when flashing, be VERY careful not to unplug or move the cable and don't touch anything in the car while it's being flashed. It's not worth the time and frustration to fix it.
