Sounds an awful lot like you're just de-humanizing the victim and the rules they were attempting to enforce. You don't even know if the victim agreed with them but they were just doing their job.

Are you saying that policies for employee and public safety should be dropped to accommodate this type of person? Are you for real?

Not sure if Tcoat mentioned, but there was an incident in the smaller (~ 1/2 M population) university town where he lives a week ago. Around 8 pm in the evening a young white man deliberately drove off the road and plowed down an entire family that were out for a walk. All were wearing traditional Pakistani clothing. Result, 4 were killed, mother, father, grandmother and daughter. A nine year old son is the sole survivor, in hospital with serious injuries. The man is charged with 4 charges of first degree murder and attempted murder in the case of the boy. I believe the father was a professor at the local university.

My point? Who in there right mind accommodates murderers?

A business can set whatever requirements they want for you to enter their private property. The only blame rests with the psycho that murdered someone because they couldn’t handle being told what to do.

And with the psychos that take his side, that too.

The policy is absolutely not a reason for people to act out in violence.

Of course it isn't but that doesn't matter to someone who is insane. The last 15 months have taken a toll on society and imo some of those already on the edge have been pushed off it.

Also, should an $8/hr employee be responsible for enforcing a mask mandate? If it means that much to the store owner let them stand there and deal with it.

Well it's their job and no matter the pay, if they accept the job, they are required to fulfil the position's duties.

How is the mask mandate different than a shoe mandate? Or shirt? etc.

it's not. It's private property.

Definitely people out of their right mind. But policy wasn't the cause - it's just an excuse to act out and justify themselves.

I'd argue their principles are the cause, beyond mental health. The same kind of principles used to self justify harassing people minding their own business because [insert superficial, trivial, or bigoted reason here]. And somehow said reason warrants an escalated response. Just not to the escalation of murder, at least not yet for some.

They are at liberty to eat their mask as far as I'm concerned, and then promptly put another one on or face consequences.

Side comment: wasn't this supposed to be No Politics?

Geez, this is just awful. I hadn't seen the report locally but I haven't watched the news in a few days.

There is no excuse for this, and I'm disappointed the off-duty sheriff wasn't a better shot (and that he got hit for his trouble).

As an aside, and not attempting to belittle this, but this store must be the last one in Atlanta, and maybe Georgia, that is enforcing a mask rule. I've been in dozens of stores "maskless" in the past three weeks and have not had any pushback regardless of what is on the door (yes, I'm fully vaccinated, since January). In fact, masks have all but disappeared in most places. In fact, most places are taking down their signs or replacing them with ones with qualifying "fully vaccinated" language.

This isn't a political debate. It's a moral and ethical.
