Get a breaker bar or some other long pipe that you can put over your wrench to get leverage.

It's well known that Dealership mechanics have ONE setting for their impact gun: MAXIMUM torque!

Just be aware of that next time you take your car in for them to work on.

they did this to mine also. standing on it normally works, but the one they happened to overtighten on mine was the wheel lock. would not come off at all since the wheel lock key would slip out of the pattern if you applied too much force.

if i had a flat tire i'd have been fucked.

Should probably add that they may be cross threaded if you cannt bust em loose with all your might or weight. New-ish lug nuts just don't get that tight. Axle nuts- yes, lug nuts no.

Quick question, did u jack up the car by the tire to lighten the pressure??? If so, get a breaker bar... Good luck!!!

Take it to the dealer. If there is a problem, they did it.

Then tell them to use a torque wrench.

If you had your oil changed there make sure they untighten it and torque it by hand.

Those cross wrenches suck at removing wheels. You'll destroy your back, I would consider a breaker bar over anything else if you have no impact.

Agree! Reason #164,455,334,554,529,443 not to take it to the dealer for little stuff.

Should I ask them to loosen and correctly torque? Do I need to be worried about stud damage?

I intend to autocross the car and I think I will lose my mind if I lose a wheel because I didn't nip this in the butt.

What do you guys think?

Edit: more concerned about possible damage, any opinions on that? I was thinking dealer because they could replace the studs while they're at it.
I've had this problem before. I think most dealers will just impact them on there because they don't really care or think that it will do damage. However I've had lugs break in half on me and almost damage my wheel.

I just dont trust anyone now with tightening my wheels, bought a hand torque wrench at Crappy Tire for like 50 bucks and haven't looked back.

It's such a simple thing (which is why they tend to overlook it) but can have potentially serious repercussions.

I agree, and I do the same. As Mark Donohue once said, those four, fist-sized patches of rubber are the only thing standing between me and Saint Peter.

I think a breaker bar will work better than a four way, it makes things much easier
