Link to manuals in my sig line. It's VERY unlikely to have two concurrent failure points. Cascade failures are common where dependencies exist. I don't think that's the case here.

Thanx everyone. Enough info for me to go on, I think. Will update after I have a go.

You could also run the tank low and run it on a straight highway again to see if you can reproduce the failure. When it starves, try sloshing what we suspect is stuck on the dead side of the tank. If the engine fires, illuminati confirmed.

obligatory: take a few liters of fuel in case we're wrong.

In situations were the process of getting e85 is complicated and I’m at like 0.5 gallon remaining, I’ll sometimes get 1-2 gallons of 91 to get me to the next station. Gauge never moves but the ethanol readings show that I’m running on 91.

So… update. Nothing. Mechanic had it for ages, tried everything he could think of bar replacing pump assembly. I’m just now driving very carefully under half a tank and carrying some fuel in the boot. Shit I know but don’t know what else I can do. I live in a remote area with very little help around. No real faith n dealer.

This is likely a very simple problem to repair, and has been mentioned previously, the low light never comes on because the right side saddle still has fuel in it. Your problem will be in one of a few places;
  1. Faulty, or clogged fuel tank return tube/sub pump (There is a filter on the end of this tube that can get clogged)
  2. The fuel hose between the return tube and the pump assembly (clogged, disconnected?)
  3. Issue in the main pump (loose connection, failed part)

I would start with replacing the sub pump & filter, then while in there be sure the fuel hose isn't clogged or disconnected.

Did you ever take it back out on the highway and do the slosh test I described? You're already carrying spare fuel.
