Memes are funny. People are too sensitive.
Seems like you've gotten burnt by religion before to be so defensive about it being a terrible thing.

Please just let it go for this thread.

Thanks.

Maybe. Maybe they just didn’t have Facebook and Instagram to complain about their nail salons being closed, or maybe they were too busy with everyone sick and dying to whine about petty stuff.

I’m free from the box you might be in

I just like to keep the magical topics off the science thread like the forum rules dictate. Furthermore, you shouldn’t be so presumptuous to lecture the guy about religion with your religious views. Just because you may call your deity God too that doesn’t mean you practice the same religion or a version of the same religion. There appears to be over 200 different denominations of just Christianity in the US and over 45,000 worldwide, so how do you know your audience enough to presume your advice will fall on familiar ears? It is rude, even if you think you have good intentions.

I sure God, Allah, Yahweh, Shiva, Vishnu, Buddha, the eagle or the dude on the mountain could care less about me, and I don’t need them to no different than I need any other of the 7.8 billion people in this world besides my wife, friends and family to love me. I’m good

See above. Spuds was lecturing the guy about Spuds’ perspectives about Spuds’ deity to another person who he presumes has the same religion without having asked him. Who is being more rude? The guy wanting religion clear of the thread (me) or the guy spouting his dogma to another person as if his religious perspective is more accurate than the other guy’s (Spuds). A secular space is a more accepting space.

Impatience, short-sightedness, and selfishness seem to be universal human traits, but I think worse in the U.S. than many other countries.

I'm seeing so many forms of COVID denial here in the U.S. Even among people who are ostensibly educated, engaged, progressive, and listen to the news. So many people are 'done with COVID'. They desperately want life to 'go back to normal', and are sticking their heads in the sand.

The virus doesn't care. It's not being fooled. People are only kidding themselves.

So many people just don't seem to understand, or care, about the variant issue. Variants with reduced susceptibility to current vaccines are out there (P.1, B. 1.351) and if we continue to let infection rates stay high, more will emerge. It's those pesky laws of evolution.

https://www.forbes.com/sites/william...h=1039af34b17e

It's beyond frustrating that there are proven means to contain the pandemic, even without vaccines. Several countries around the world have done it and been able to return to an admittedly 'new normal' but reasonably safe life. Such as Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan, and Finland. Even supposedly 'poor' countries like Bhutan and Vietnam have controlled the pandemic. But it would take the kind of responsible, rational, sensible, patient measures that most people in the U.S. just can't be bothered with. Specifically, a hard lockdown for a couple of months (I can already hear the deniers wailing about their 'rights!' at that one).

Those are the unpleasant facts no one wants to hear. As a result, we will all, together and individually, be facing the consequences of our actions.

From the guy who said people are too sensitive comes the rant on how I wasn't sensitive enough...

Fun fact, I'm actually not a particularly religious person, I just happen to have friends and family that are, and that includes practitioners of different faiths, not limited to just christianity. I've had the opportunity to discuss the matter with different people, and I have long since reconciled the compatibility between faith in a higher power and the study of material things. I was just trying to help somebody recognize that.

The world isn't defined by the black and white lines you made in your head and different people interpret the same things differently. That difference is what produces interesting discussions and leads to discovery.

Doesn't sound like it, man. In fact, you're kinda creating the exact problem people had complained about in other threads. Starting with hostility first then providing facts. Do you do that with your patients at the hospital or in a fitness setting?

So of course we were scheduled to get the J&J shot. Looks like my wife and I won't be getting vaccinated today...

Back to the drawing board...

I heard some places were swapping the J&J for Pfizer in some cases, does she have that option or do you have to wait till that becomes an option?
