Looks nice. I checked and Fasmoto has it again for around $625 (plus shipping/fees). They were out for a while, and the only other places I could find it were selling for around $1000. Do you have the USB, backup camera, and steering wheel controls all hooked up and working?

I’ve been saying this for some time, why car manufacturers insist on wasting their R&D monies on bespoke infotainment is perplexing, more so when Kenwood, Pioneer, Sony etc etc all have very nice units to choose from. Worse is how car manufacturers are now designing these units with odd shapes.

A lot of the OEMs use those companies to make their HUs.

The 2017 BRZ HU is made by Clarion.

Weren't most (all?) of the FR-S HUs made by Pioneer?

Most Honda HUs are made by Alpine.

The main purpose of the odd shapes is actually theft deterrent. I've had enough single din stereos stolen out of my cars over the years - I actually appreciate this.

Yes, USB, backup cam, and steering wheel controls all work, the only thing I've not tested is the Aux input. It's not normally something I use so, I never got around to testing it.

Thanks a lot for posting this picture, I really wanted to see what it looked like installed and real life like..looks pretty good.

Also thanks everyone contributing to this thread. There are people like me who are silently following... I really hate my 2017 BRZ head unit.

I don't like it either, I'm cautiously hopeful that the 2018 might be worth upgrading too. If the damned interface isn't laggy as all hell - it'd be worth it just for that. I'd also enjoy CarPlay.

Yes, but wouldn't that head unit be expensive? I found this link for the current 2017 BRZ head unit (the one everboy wants to change) and that's at 1461 USD!

Plus I actually prefer the single peace dashboard more to the black plastic one around the current HU so that's a good upgrade there as well as the HU along with it..

Errr, that's not the current BRZ's HU. It says 2017 Impreza (2017 BRZ doesn't even have built-in nav).

aaand there goes my ability to read..... I got exposed! LOL

anyway I found this now. It still says Radio and Navigation. When you click on the image at the bottom in what looks like the head unit of a 2017 BRZ, you get part 86201B Stereo Deck at 1125 USD. If I got it right this time, this is still way too much.

Do the radio and Sirius work? That's why I went with the 9703.

Well, once people start swapping out the '18 HUs for aftermarket units, we can all fight over them on the used market :p

And this'll definitely happen, seeing as there are quite a few '17 owners who have sold off the tail lights for relatively good prices compared to buying them new.

Radio; yes. Sirius; I think I read on another thread that it does not, but I won't be testing it as I wasn't impressed with the service past the initial 4 month trial I had.
