Easy, in that situation, put it in manual mode. I do this several times a week just for the fun factor.

In the 2013 FRS in manual mode the transmission:
  • Only upshifts when you tell it to.
Will only downshift if the car was going to stall.
Will bounce off the rev limiter all day until you switch gears.
Will skip gears if you double or even triple tap in either direction.
Will get to 60MPH in second gear

One thing a few reviewers have noted is that the AT on the second gen car will disallow some manual downshifts even when that downshift would not over-rev the engine. Seems Subaru and Toyota built a very large safety margin in there with their tuning that some testers found really annoying.

Choices are a good thing. Get the one you want and let’s stop yucking others yum.

I wish I was driving for fun more than just commuting, but to be honest at this time 99% of my miles are commuting on a highway. So engagement is low. Still happy with the car though.

I'll probably never understand why someone would want a small low powered noisy sports car and then option it with a meh auto. Plenty of better options if you don't really want the full experience. GTI, EN, IS300,Any of the pony cars.
I made an account here just to respond to this.

The GTI and Elantra N are front wheel drive economy based cars. Are automatic users not supposed to enjoy rear wheel drive?

The LS300 is an entry level luxury car. Are automatic users not supposed to enjoy sports cars?

The mustang automatic weighs 600 pounds more. The Camaro weighs 300 pounds more. The challenger weighs 800 pounds more. Are automatic users not supposed to enjoy low weight?

Also, no matter what transmission you get this car is not loud. It’s not a noise regulation thing

Your argument makes no sense. The car is not made for the experience to be shifting gears and never was. This car does not have a boxer engine, limited slip differential, 50 50 weight distribution, and low weight for the main purpose to be shifting gears. If low horsepower shifting WAS the point of the car, you would have something more like a manual base civic or an si. A mildly sporty car that has a nice shifter but won’t blow you away with its handling or looks.

You all need to stop gatekeeping people from getting the car they want on a forum dedicated to the car

Can't be taken seriously. The car mages were all clearly flipped to show the steering wheel on the wrong side of the car!

I didn't even notice. Simplest explanation holds true. It's a Brit website.

It disallows downshifts above 4k because it wants a 1.5k gap to redline in a lower gear. this is conservative, but in my usage hasn't been an issue because when I downshift I want gear left over anyhow, but it would be nice to not have the nanny or at least had some more headroom. But I feel reviewers were annoyed by it a little more than needed due to not understanding and/or asking about it.

4k+? I Don`t care which is better, but I could probably do 2 gears down in a single shift. Suppose it`s just a close ratio box thing.
