As far as overall diameter, those would be the same as 215/50R17's right?
Sorry, I'm new to tire measurements.

The main reason I mentioned 215/50R17 was because I found a really good deal on tires in that size but will certainly keep the narrower option in mind as well.

carczar87: IIRC there is only +2% difference between 205/50R17 and stock 215/45, so rather close. And yes, higher sideprofile/lesser width tires on average cost less, and yes, in winter it's often advised to have narrower tires for more pressure per contact patch, to less snow-slush-planing, to better get studs in ice and so on. I'm sometimes thinking of 195/55/R17 (+3.25%), or it's too much stretch for stock 7" rim width?

Been hunting for 245 tires for a few weeks without success. Shop picked up some nitto NT01's for me but turns out they are 235 and not 245. I'm gonna put them on 17x9 +35 wheels. I'm not a fan of stretch and not using the wheel to its fullest, but will this be a big compromise at the track/canyons until I wear out the set and try again?

nope, not a big deal. The compound is pretty nice so you won't be losing much traction if at all. They also run wider than advertised. Only thing is they might be slightly smaller in circumference, depending on your setup, the extra acceleration might be a good thing.

I've seen what will fit, etc. However, I want to know what is the ideal 18" in terms of maintaining the current driving dynamics? I'm afraid to go too wide and change the way the car turns in and corners. Is 18x8 or 18x8.5 preferred? I assume 18x9 would be too wide and affect dynamics? I'm stock power, and in terms of suspension I'd like to add some lowering springs along the lines of TRD/Eibach/RCE Yellows.

Also, would spacers vs staggered be a better option? Going squared just doesn't fill the wheel wells evenly the way I would prefer.

If you want it similar to stock, keep it similar to stock. Stock is 17x7, So I would say get 18x8 on 225/40's

Spacers are better as you can rotate the tires.
Stagger will ruin whatever balance you wanted to keep.

@Toyarzee I couldn't find much details on the tire, but the section(outside to outside) width is 9.49. Wheel width is measured inside to inside of the lip, so the outside of the lip may be near 9.5 or 10inches. There will be a tiny stretch if any.

Also take note that tire reviews for R-compounds are usually from racers who have very high standards and only want the best. At that price, the nitto's are bang for the buck and good for what they are.

Thanks. It doesn't have to stay exactly stock, but I don't want to lose too much of the go cart type steering response we have on these.

At what width does the grip start to affect the steering? If I went 8.5, what tire would you recommend, 235/35?

235/35's are extremely rare.

I'd suggest 235/40 or 245/35. Look at tire specs and compare to stock (diameter etc) and decide which one works better for you.

Ideal tire for an 8.5" wheel is a 245/35R18. I would skip the spacers and find a wheel with an offset between 30-35 to push them out more, not a fan of spacers.

235/35R18 is not an available tire size. 235/40 or 245/35. 245/40 is too tall so stay away from that size.

You 'da man! Tires just came in and the shop measured the bead right at 9" which put me further at ease. Appreciate all the info, and I'm getting excited to mount everything up. I've done a handful of track days bone stock or close enough, so this will be fun to see the difference.

I just got new wheels that measure 18x8.5 with a 33 offset and I was wondering what size tire I should put on. I was thinking 245 but will that rub? Should I go smaller?
